Archie Tuttle
New Store Owner
EWING— Clyde Allen, owner
and manager of the Gamble store
tor the past 11 years, has an
nounced that arrangements have
been completed for the sale of his
dare to Archie Tuttle, a long
time resident of Ewing.
Mr. Alien is one of the “old
tapers" with the Gambles, having
darted when merchandise was
flitained from one of the nearby
company-owned branch stores.
- Mr. Allen has been active in
dvic and community affairs.
Archie Tuttle, who has operat
ed a ranch near Ewing, is well
known in Ewing. He was born
and raised in this community,
^le and his wife and daughter
will move into the home at pres
ort occupied by the Allens.

chased the Gamble store at Plain
tdew and will move there with
their family as soon as school is
tut At present, Mr. Allen drives

Dale Van Vleck, a graduate of
Ewing high school with the class
of 1950 and valedictorian of his
class, was honored for high schol
arship at the University of Ne
braska convocation in the coli
seum on April 24. His parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Van Vleck,
live south of Ewihg. His brother,
Fred, is a junior at Ewing high
this year.
Mrs. Kittie Fry returned home
last week from McPherson,
Kans., where she has spent sev
eral weeks visiting at the home
of her son, Eldred Fry, and fam
ily.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Gunter,
and daughter, Marylou, and her
friend, Carol Barton, accompan
ied by Miss Dorothy Pollock, vis
ited at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Allan Pollock on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Perry Saiser had
their son, Raymond, of Omaha,
as a weekend guest.
Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Sorenson,
of Omaha, spent a recent week
end at the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Robley Sisson, sr.
George Adrian, Floyd Tucker,
Clarence and Clifford Hahlbaek
spent Sunday fishing near Stu
art.
Loyd Angus went to Denver,
Colo., Saturday, on business.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Angus and
family, of Verdigre, were guests
at the home of his mother, Mrs.
Elizabeth Angus, on Monday.
Mrs. Elizabeth Angus return
ed home Thursday from Madison
where she had been a guest at the
home of her daughter and fam
ily, Mr. and Mrs. James Furley,
and family for several weeks.
The Altar society of St. Peter’s
Catholic fchurch met on Tuesday
evening, May 1, at the home of
Mrs. Frances Shaw. A business
session was held, at which Mrs.
Shaw presided. This was follow
ed by a social hour and games of
cards. Refreshments were served
by the hostesses, Mrs. K. B. Kra
chie and Mrs. Arthur Kropp.
Lt. and Mis. Frank McNeill
left Thursday for Camp Camp
bell, Ky., after spending a few
days with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. R. G. Rockey, and other rel
atives.
Willis Rockey spent the fore
part of the week in Omaha.
Mrs. Anna Bergman and son,
Bob, of Elgin, were Sunday
guests at the home of her sister
and husband, Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Good, and family. Mrs.
H. A. Wegner was also a caller at
the Good home the same day.
Mr. and Mrs. Gail Boies and
niece, Mary Ann Bauer, spent
Sunday viisting at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bohn.
Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Davis
made a business trip to Omaha
on Thursday returning home on
Friday. Her mother, Mis. Louise
Beal, of Orchard, accompanied
them.
On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Ken
neth Davis, of Hastings, were
callers at the home of his broth
er and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Waldo
Davis.
Guests on Saturday at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Da
vis were Mr. and Mrs. James
Austin, of Wichita, Kans., and
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Austin, of
Plainview.
The Thursday Bridge club was
entertained at the home of Mrs.
R. G. Rockey on May 3. Guests
were Mrs. William Spence, Mrs.
M. B. Huffman and Mrs. Lee
Woods. Prize for high score was
won by Mrs. Florence Eben
gaard, and for low score the prize
went to Mrs. John Archer. The
traveling prizes went to Mrs. W.
H. Briggs and Mrs. Earl Billings.
The hostess served refreshments
after the games. The club will
meet at the home of Mrs. W. H.
Briggs next meeting.
The Forum group of the United
Presbyterian church, of Ewing,
met at the country home of Mr.
and Mrs. Leo Miller. Twenty-six
members were present. Mrs. Du
ane Jensen read the scripture
and presented the lesson "Manag
ing Money.” This was followed
bv an informal discussion which
brought out many interesting
facts on the managing of money
in our homes. The evening came
to a close with a social hour and
refreshments which were served
by the hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Mil
ler.
On Tuesday evening, May 1,
Jean Welke and Rosetta McDon
ald entertained 22 of their school
mates at a party held in the rec
reationroom of the Welke home.
Amusements for the evening
were games, dancing, music on
their record player. Lunch was
served by the hostesses.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Moos and
family, of O’Neill, were guests of
her brother and wife, Mr. and
Mrs. Edward Yelli, and daughter
on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. John Turay and
daughter, Nancy Lee, were guests
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. A.
Hobbs, and family on Sunday.
Mrs. Arthur Kropp went to In
man Sunday to spend some time
with her mother, Mrs. Anna
Young, who is ill.
Merriman Elected
to Board of Governors—
Jim Merriman, son of Mr. and
Mrs. L. M. Merriman, is one of 2
elected to represent the law
school on the student board of
governors at Creighton universi
ty for next year. This year, Mer
riman has served as freshman
representative on the Student
Bar association.
Last week he was initiated into
Delta Theta Phi fraternity, also
elected pledge master of that
group for the coming year. In
addition to these, Jim held sev
eral offices during his 4 years in
commerce school at Creighton.

Navy Enlistments
Again Accepted—
Enlistments for the navy are
being accepted again, according
to GMC Edgar Lewis, USN.
Mental and physical require
ments have been lowered so that
they are now the same as for the
draft. Beginning Thursday, May
10, a navy representative will be
at the O’Neill postoffice to an
swer any inquiries.
Marston Joins
Air Force—
Charles (“Chuck”) Marston,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mar
ston, of Walnut, has enlisted in
the air force and left Wednesday,
May 2, for Lackland air base,
San Antonio, Tex.
