WJAG (780 k c.) — Dr. j. l. sherbahn CHIROPRACTOR O'Neill. Nebraska Complete X-Ray Equipment Block So. of Ford Garage . M ■■ I WORK SLATED FOR HIGHWAY 281 A project which will complete the construction of U.S. Highway 281 from O’Neill to the Spencer comer to modern standards will , be among the jobs on which con tractors will bid at a letting May 24, according to an announce ment Wednesday by the state highway department. From a mile and a third south of Eagle creek, this work will ex tend south to Camp creek. This proposed project, together with the construction of the 5 miles just north of O’Neill completed in 1950, the construction of 7% miles just south of the Spencer corner for which contracts were awarded in December, 1950, and the work done in 1945, will bring all 27 miles of 281 north of O’ Neill to standards suitable for bi tuminous surfacing, State Engi neer Fred Klietsch said. To grade the 5 miles to a 32 fooi roadway width with no sharp inclines will require the excavation of about 128-lhou sand-cubic-yards of earth. Three new concrete box cul verts and 10 new metal culverts will be constructed. Two of the box culverts will replace narrow bridges now on the route. Many of the culverts now in place will be extended to serve the widen ed roadway width. On about a mile of the project, a 4-inch sand clay blanket course will be laid down over the finished grade to give the road a firm foundation. At Midway, a detour road will lead 1 mile west, 5 miles south and 1 mile east to rejoin 281. The mile and a half of the project north of Midway will be open to traffic throughout construction. Laying culvert pipes, grading and graveling on the detour road will be included in the work on which contractors will bid at the letting May 24. Construction of new concrete paving on U.S. Highway 20, be tween Belden and LaureL is another project contractors will bid upon on May 24. This paving will replace a 15 year-old bituminous mat. New paving was laid between Ran dolph and Belden in 1950. High way 20 is concrete from Laurel to Sioux City.
