JAMES KELLY Ewing Youths to Methodist Meet EWING — The Youth Fellow ship group of the Ewing Metho dist church was represented at the youth rally which was held at Neligh on Sunday, April 8, by the following members: Marcus Pierson, Sally Christon, Vernon Rockey, Lois Ann Berg strom, Joellyn Eacher and Dick Wright. They were accompanied by Mrs. C. C. Chappell. Some of the highlights of the afternoon and evening program included an organ concert by Aine Sorensen; an interesting talk by Miss Lorraine Schacht, of Lincoln, who is the conference director of youth work, and the sermon for youth, by Dr. Joe Ri ley Burns, of the First Methodist church of Lincoln. The Women’s Society of Chris tian Service of the church met at the parlors Wednesday afternon, April 4. Mrs. William Spence, vice-president, had charge of the business session in the absence of Mrs. Earl Billings, president. Mrs. Albert Larson and Mrs. Jessie Angus were appointed as nominating committee for selec tion of candidates for officers in the society for the coming vear— the election to be held in May. Mrs. Leland Welke had charge of devotionals, “Be Ye Perfect,” and the lesson, “Changing Pat terns for Women.” A luncheon was served by the hostesses, Mrs. N. A. Bergstrom and Mrs. Florence Butler. Other Ewing News Mr. and Mrs. William Spence were Atkinson visitors on Sun day. Mrs. Anna Newton, mother of Mrs. Spence, returned home with them for a short visit. J. H. Gibson was a caller at the William J. Harris home on Wednesday, April 4. The gentle men made a trip to Neligh where Mr. Gibson had business. On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Vance Bennett and son, of Ne ligh, were guests at the home of her mother, Mrs. Agnes Bartak. Waldo Davis is carrying mail this week for Charles Rotherham, who is enjoying a vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Ruby and son, Jan, of Valentine, spent the weekend with relatives in Ew ing. Mrs. Ruby and Jan remained for a longer visit with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Each er. A surprise dinner party was held at the home of Mrs. Leota Butler Saturday evening honor ing her birthday anniversary. Guests present were her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vance Butler, and family, of Ne ligh; her grandson, Vernon Rock ey, and her daughter, Mrs. Vera Anson, who lives with her. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Binkerd and family, of Neligh, spent Tuesday evening, April 3, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Gib son and family. Mrs. Homer Barton and daugh- I ter Linda, returned to their home i in Orchard, after spending a few days with her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Davis. Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Adrian and family the past week were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Adrian, and daughter, Kay, of Neosha, Mo.; his sisters and husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Spencer and Mr. and Mrs. John Cantrell, of Wich ita Kans. All were called to Ew ing because of the serious illness and death of Mrs. M. H. Dierks, mother of Mrs. Sidney Adrian. Mrs. Perry Saiser was hostess to the Thursday bridge club at her home April 5. Little Julie Kay Fry was a guest of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Gibson, over the weekend while her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Fry, were in Omaha. Richard Minton and Eugene Leach went to Omaha on Sunday evening where they took their physical examinations for enlist ment in the navy. Monday they left Omaha for San Diego, Calif.
