Edward Skudler Soon Will Go to Japan AMELIA—The WMS of the Bethany Free Methodist church met with Mrs. Milton Clemens Wednesday, February 14. It was an all-day affair. Mrs. Clemens served roast goose. All members were present, and the men folk were guests. Mrs. Glenn White presented the lesson on “Stewardship”. It was voted to piece a friend ship quilt for Edward Skudler, who was recently married. He is attending school in Seattle, Wash., at present but soon will go to Japan as a missionary. The next meeting will be with Mrs. S. C. Barnett March 15. Other Amelia News Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fuller ton entertained a few couples at a pinochle party Friday eve ning. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Small, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Barnett, Mr. and Mrs. George FuL.rton and fam ilies. The Youth Fellowship group and their leaders, Mrs. Lawrence Barnett, attended a-rally at Page Sunday afternoon and evening. WSCS of the Methodist church will meet with Mrs. Vern Sages er February 28 at 2 p. m. Mrs. Ed White, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Coolidge and Hai ry Coolidge visited Elmer Coolidge at the hospital in Norfolk Friday. Friends calling on Ed White Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Link Sageser, Mrs. Vern Sageser, Mrs. Julia White, Mr. and Mrs. Glee Grimes, Jim Grimes, Glenn White, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Coolidge and Kenneth. Mr. and Mrs. Dankert, of Chambers, cal led there on Friday. Mr. White had returned home from the Stuart hospital Monday, Febru ary 12. , , The Amelia Progressive- club met Wednesday, February 14, with Mrs. Frank Backaus. Sever al members were absent on ac count of illness. A lesson on “Sheets and Pillowcases” was presented by Mrs. Lloyd Waldo. Next meeting will be with Mrs. E. H. White March 15. Mr. and Mrs. Cap Withers and family spent Friday evening at the Irvin Forbes home. Oscar Greenstreet, of Belling ham, Wash., his son, Keith Greenstreet, and wife, of Lin coln, visited at the F. C. Watson home Saturday and Sunday. Charles Bligh and Lewirte Wickham drove from Valentine Tuesday evening, February 13, to attend the program put on by the Amelia high school room. Rae Dee Wickham returned home with them and visited un til Sunday when Mr. Bligh and Mrs. Wickham brought her home and spent the day visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank fierce. Rev. I. L. Dixon, of Colome, S. D., visited Eld White Wednesday, February 14, and other friends in the community. Mrs. Mae Estes, Mrs. Lindsey and Florence were supper guests of Mrs. Julia White Sunday eve ning. IMr. and Mrs. Tom Baker were also callers there later in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Porter and son, Bobbie, and Mrs. Maurine Bennett, of Basin, Wyo., re turned home Wednesday, Febru ary 14, after visiting at the Frank Backaus home a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ragland and family, Calvin Coolidge and Harry Coolidge went to Norfolk Sunday to visit Elmer Coolidge at the hospital. Mrs. Coolidge, who had been staying in Nor folk to be near Mr. Coolidge, returned home and his brother Harry stayed with him. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Forbes and sons, Gerald and Leslie, spent Friday night visiting her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Law rence Pacha. The occasion was Mr. Pacha’s birthday anniversary. They took a freezer of ice cream and a cake along for a surprise. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schade, of Chambers, were dinnler guests at John Allen’s Sunday. Darrel Carr, who has been working at the Bill Knox home near Chambers, returned home Saturday. Harry Coolidge, of Greeley, Colo., has been visiting relatives here the past week and also with his brother, Elmer Coolidge, who is in the hospital at Norfolk. The Helping Hand club met February 8, with Mrs. Blake Ott. Sixteen members and six visit ors were present. The program committee, IMrs. Wm Fryrear and Mrs. August Pospichal, re quested each' member to come wearing a hat they had made and prizes were awarded for the best hat. Mrs. B. W. Waldo won first and Mrs. Ralph Rees sec ond prize in the contest. Mrs. Mae Sageser stated that she had her “rabbits foot” with her that day, as she won the prize in all the other contests. Each member gave a penny for each inch of their height and donated /this amount — $16.23 — to the poho iund. H. W. Tom inson Honored In Family Dinner— Mrs. James Coventry, of In man, honored her father, H. W. Tomlinson, of O’Neill, at a din ner Sunday. Mr. Tomlinson’s 77th birthday anniversary was Tuesday, February 20. Guests at the Sunday gather ing were: Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Tomlinson, of Inman; Mr. and Mrs. William Turner and daugh ter, Mrs. Maxine Thompson, and children, and Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Tomlinson. Topics of the lesson about the Near East, were discussed by Mrs. Leo Miller, Mrs. Duane Jensen, Mrs. Norma i\apier and Mrs. Graham. Mrs. Dewitt Hoke led the de votional oi the prayer group. Hymns, verses from the Bible a bout prayer were read. Season of prayer for doctors, nurses and workers in the medical field in Pakistan and Ethiopia. Refreshments were served at the close of the lesson by Mrs. t rances Shrader and Mrs. Duane Fudge. The next meeting will b6 09 March 45 with a covered dish luncheon at the home of Mrs. Mary Napier. Other Ewing News Mr. and Mrs. Albert Larson were surprised on Sunday when their two daughters and hus 1 ands, * Mr. and Mrs. Donald Starr, and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Pahl, and family, ail of West Point, came with well filled baskets for a dinner, hon oring Mrs. Larson, who will cel ebrate a birthday anniversary on February 22. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Funk, ac companied by her father, Lee Spittler, spent the forepart of the week in Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Hupp, of Omaha, are spending a few days visiting friends and relatives in Ewing. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Funk and daughter, Karen, went to Oma ha on Friday to attend the gold en glove tournament. While there they were guests at the home of her brother, Leo Spittler, and family. Oh Sunday, Mr and Mrs. Sam Regan, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Mick McKay and family, of Atkinson, went to Norfolk to spend the day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. McKay. Mr. Mc Kay is recovering from an injury which occurred while falling a tree recently. Mrs. Anna Young and daugh ter-in-law, Mrs. Myrtle Young, of Inman, spent Sunday visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ar thur Kropp and family. Mrs. Henry Fleming and sister, Mrs. Dora Townsend, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Reed on Sunday. On the way home, they also called on Mr and Mrs Frank Belmar, jr. Mr. and Mrs. John Sisson made a business trip into Iowa the lat ter part of the week. They re ported “very bad” road condi tions, due to sleet on the high wavs. Mrs. Clyde Allen and Mrs. Gail Boies entertained the YM club at the Allen home on Tuesday evening, February 13. Pinochle was played with the following score winners: Mrs. Arthur Kropp, Mrs. James Boies and Mrs. Frances Shaw. After the games, a social hour, with a val entine box and exchange of val entines, was enjoyed. A luncheon of cherry jello, salad with nut bread sandwiches and coffee, was served by the hostesses. Mrs. Ralph Munn was a guest. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hoag, of Or chard, were guests on Thursday and Friday at the home of Mrs Jessie Angus. They left on Satur day for Omaha and from there plan to go to Washington, D. C., where they will visit several weeks with a daughter and fam ily. Melvin Hagadorn, of the state of Washigpton, visited friends in Ewing over the weekend. The Hagadorn family are former res idents of Ewing. George Adrian, Clifford Hahl beck, Willis Rockey, Vance An son and Buford Carlson went to Long Pine on Sunday to spend the day fishing. Mr. and Mrs. George Jefferies and Bonnie Jo entertained the following guests at their home on Sunday: Mrs. Lena Jefferies, Mr. and Mrs. Loren Jefferies, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Maben and daugh ter, Neta Lee, all from Clearwa ter, and Mr. and Mrs. William Wulf, of Ewing. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wright and children were guests on Sunday at fhe home of Mr. and Mrs Mark Maben at O’Neill. Mrs. Wilma Daniels and chil dren were guests at the Thomas Lucas home on Sunday. A birth day anniversary dinner was serv ed, honoring Miss Bethyl Dan iels and her grandmother, Mrs. Gus Daniels. Mr. and Mrs. Leigh Blake and Tom were visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leigh Reynold son on Sunday, February 18. Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Ray and daughter spent the weekend at the home of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Waits, in Ainsworth. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Medcalf were in Elgin Sunday, Febru ary 18, visiting Mr .and Mrs. Darell Van Wey and family. Maxine Golden and Mary Ann Hayes, of Omaha, spent the weekend here visiting Miss Gol den’s parents, Mr, and Mrs. M. J. Golden. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Manson returned Thursday. February 15, after a month’s trip touring 20 Southern and Eastern states and Canada. They made stops to vis it friends in Missouri, Pennsyl vania, West Virginia, Michigan, and Winsor, Ont., Canada. Mr. and Mrs. Don McKamy and daughter, Bruce Ann, lett on a trip to Roger Mo., where they will visit Mr. McKamy’s sister and family, Mr. 'and Mrs. George Kelly, and children. The McKamy’s left Sunday, Febru ary 13, and plan to stay a week. Mrs. Floyd Rienhardt, of Om aha, is here visiting Mrs. John Rotherham and Mrs. Matt Hynes. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Casey and Mrs. Mary Marierhenry, of Gregory, S. D., spent the week end here visiting Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Landis. Mrs. Rodney Livings and ba by daughter of Omaha, is visit ing here with her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. John Key, of Emmet, and other relatives in O’Neill. Sill, Okla., was a dinner guest at the home of (Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lo renz Friday evening February 16. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Straube, of Broken Bow, spent the week end at the home of Mrs. Emma Lawrence. Aloys Kaup, Wife Married 37 Years RIVERSIDE — Mr. and Mrs. Aloys Kaup were surprised by their family Sunday, February 18, in honor of their 37th wed ding anniversary. Those present included: Mr. and Mrs. Romanus Kaup and son, Danny; Grandma Wallinger; Mr. and Mrs. Anton Kaup and family; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Weichman, jr., and children; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Olberding and girls, of Stuart; and Mr and Mrs. Roy Gilg and family and Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Kaup and girls, of Atkinson.
