Celia Phone Board Enjoys Oysters CELIA—Members of the board of directors of Celia Telephone company met at the home of O. A. Hammerberg Friday evening, December 15. Those present were: D. F. Scott. Milton McKathnie, Alex Forsythe, Mark Hendricks, Stan ley Johnson and George Beck. Mrs. Scott, Mrs Hendricks and Mrs. Beck came and visited Mrs. Hammerberg. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Livingston were O’Neill visitors Saturday, December 16. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Johnson visited Mr. and Mrs. John Schwindt and daughter Thursday evening, December 14. Mr. and Mrs. Emil Colfack and family were Friday evening, De cember 13, visitors at the Roy Margritz home north of O’Neill. Other visitors at the Margritz home were Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Blackmore, of south of Atkinson. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Heiser were Norfolk visitors Tuesday, De cember 12. Their son, Gerald, spent the day with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Beck. p t j t i t J Mr. and Mrs. Gene Livingston are driving a new Chevrolet car. Mrs. D. F. Scott attended the Shakespeare club Christmas par ty at the home of Mrs. Claude Humphreys Friday afternoon, December 15. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kilmurry and Mary Catherine and Patricia were dinner guests at the P. W. Kilmurry home Sunday, Decem ber 17, and afternoon visitors at the August Troshynski home. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Heiser and son, Gerald, were visitors at the Duane Beck home Friday and Saturday, December 15 and 16. Alvin brought his picker and helped Duane pick corn. The Lawrence Smith family is enjoying a new Chevrolet car purchased December 4. Alex Frickel went to Omaha Wednesday, December 13. He ex pected to visit in Lincoln before returning home some time Mon day, December 18. Supper guests at the Marvin Focken home Sunday, December 10, were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ziska and daughters. Dorothy Scott visited the Char les Dobias family Sunday, De cember 17. Mrs. D. F. Scott attended the Iris society Christmas party at the home of Mrs. C. C. Raymer Monday afternoon, December 11. Gene Livingston picked com with a picker for O. A. Hammer berg Thursday, December 14. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Johnson were guests at the Roy Nilson home in Newport Sunday, De cember 10. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hendricks and family were Wednesday eve ning, December 13, visitors at the Kmil Colfack home. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Chaffin and family and Mrs. Woods visit ed the Mark Hendricks home on Wednesday afternoon, December 13. Mr. Chaffin ground a load of feed while there. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Smith and children were Friday eve ning, December 15, visitors at th^ Lee Terwilliger home. Neil Dawes, of O’Neill, was a business caller at the O. A. Ham merberg home Saturday after noon, December 16. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bausch and Steve Bausch were Sunday after noon, December 17, visitors at the Stanley Johnson home. Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Arp and family were Tuesday evening, December 12, visitors at the Emil Colfack home. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Hendricks were O’Neill visitors Thursday, December 14. Mrs. O. A. Hammerberg and Mrs. Smith Thompson were O’ Neill visitors Saturday afternoon, December 16. Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Frickel were Wednesday evening, De cember 13, visitors at the Duane Beck home. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Pease were Sunday guests at the William Spann home. Other guests were Mrs. Spann’s brother, George Reed, and wife, also his grand son, Myron Elrod, all of Litch field. A. i Hammerberg attended the At kinson Country Woman’s club meeting at the home of Mrs. Jes- j sie Richards Thursday, December 14. Assisting hostesses were Mrs. Minnie Anson, Mrs. Ann Crip pen, Mrs. Alida Scott, Mrs. Min nie Martens and Mrs. Mayme Meyers. It was the first all-day meeting of the year. Dinner was served. Fifty dollars was given to the Atkinson hospital, also ov er 6 to the Nebraska children’s home. Grab bag and mystery sis- \ ter gifts were exchanged. Asa Woods home Saturday afternoon, De cember 16, for a Christmas party givon the children by their Sun aay-school teacher, Mrs. Ray mond Rtjbey. Games, grabbag ex change of gifts and lunch were the main events of the afternoon. Christmas Party Held at St. John’s DELOIT — A Christmas part> for the youngsters was held at basement of St. John’s Catholic church Sunday evening, Decern her 17. Other Deloit News Mr. and Mrs. H. Reimer and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Wulf were Sunday dinner guests at the Minnie Reimer home in Ewing. The bridge over Clearwater Creek, near Ferdie Hupp’s, was repaired last week. Mrs. Stanley Huffman, of Elgin, spent Tuesday, December 12, at the ranch home of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Huffman and daughters. Zoe Ann is able to attend school most all day now. Clearwater Creek club met Wednesday, December 13, with Mrs. Henry Trennepohl. Mr. and Mrs. S. Venteicher and family spent Sunday at Or jchard. The WEO club met Thursday with Mrs. Glenn Harpster. Next meeting will be with Mrs. Hen j ry Reimer on January 11. Mr. and Mrs. Anton Shavlik attended a farm bureau supper and meeting at Bartlett Thurs day evening. Mrs. Sidney Anderson visited at the Ivan Brigg’s home at Bart lett on Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Reimer and Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Miss McCullough Receives Gift The college reading class held its last meeting on Saturday, De cember 16. After a morning of class instruction, members gath ered at the home of Mrs. James Cronk for a luncheon in honor of Miss Elja McCullough. Ellwanger, of Anoka, were Lynch shoppers’ Saturday, December 6. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Farrans and family, of Meadow Grove, came Saturday, December 16, for a weekend visit with relatives here and in Holt county. Russell Johns, of Sioux City, came Friday, December 8, for a weekend visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Johns. Mr. and Mis. Lloyd Mills spent Sunday, December 17, at the Guy Norwood home, helping Mr. and Mrs. Norwod celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. Mrs. William Mahlendorf and daughter spent Friday and Sat urday, December 16-17 in Nor folk on business. The Lynch high school held an athletic banquet at the Am erican Legion hall Monday, De cember 18, for the purpose of re plenishing the high school ath letic fund. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Halva visit ed at the Alvin Havranek homo near Spencer one day last week. Mrs. Agatha Kohler, of Ver del, spent the December 16-17 weekend at the Vine Jeihorek home. Speeches on Europe 'Punishments'— By Burl Young Applied mathamatic class has started a new unit called con struction and designs at Cham bers high school. World geography class has al so started a new unit. They are also learning the countries and capitals of Europe. “Punishment” for not learning these was to give a speech on one of the Eu ropean countries. In biology' we are studying a bout trees and products. English 10 just finished the study of “The Ancient Mariner,” and started the study of the eight parts of speech. Algebra I started studying di vision of monomials & polonom oals. Shop I class have finished squaring their boards and all are* making their knife holde’s. A bout half of the class are already on their bread boards. Don Hol man and Elmer Swager are work ing on the turning lathe. Some more of the warm up jackets came last week. SCHOOLS RECESS O’Neill public school pupils will leave the classrooms today (Thursday) for the Christmas re cess and resume studies January 2* St. Mary’s academy pupils will he dismissed Friday afternoon. ATKINSON NEWS Mrs. Roy Goeke was hostess at the Young Homemakers’ Christ mas party on Wednesday, De cember 13, at their home. Ten members, their families and two guests were present. Games and cards wer*e played for entertain ment. Gifts were exchanged and a lunch was served. Mrs. Betty Siebert will be hostess at the next club meeting on January 10 at 2 p. m.( at the home of Mrs. Fred Braun. Mr. and Mrs. Casper Winkler left Thursday, December 14, for California. They will visit their daughter?, Maxine and Pauline, and families and get acquainted with the^r new grandson, Patrick McKenzie. Mrs. Dave Posen re sides at Pasadena and her hus band is ih the navy, being recall ed last month. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. McKenzie and Patrick live in Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. James R.
