3 New Members Join Aid— CHAMBERS— The Lutheran iadies Aid met Thursday, De cember 14, at the home of Mrs. H. C. Walter with about 35 mem bers and visitors present. The business session was in charge of the president, Mrs. Walter. Mrs. Lyle Walter was elected vice-president and Mrs. | L. Lenz, secretary. Three new members were ad mitted. . The house was decorated in keeping with Christmas. There was an exchange of gifts. Each member also brought a gift for the children’s orphanage at Fre mont Lunch of fruit salad, cook ies and coffee was served by a ljommittee composed of Mrs. J. W. Walter, Mrs. Lyle Walter, I Mrs. L. O. Lenz and Mrs. Henry Brown. Give for Korean Mission Work— CHAMBERS — The Women's Society of Christian Service met Thursday, December 14, at the home of Mrs. C. E. Tibbets with 52 members and visitors present. A short business session was conducted by the president, Mrs. Charles Grimes. Mrs. Sarah Adams led the de votionals assisted by Mrs. Nellie -Starr. Mrs. Darrell Gillette was *Jn charge of the program which consisted of songs and readings. There was an exchange of gifts, also a gift of money for mission j work in Korea. Lunch of fruit salad, cake and coffee was served. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Darrell Gillette. CHAMBERS NEWS I Mr. and Mrs. James Platt and Beverly and Tom Hutton and I son were dinner guests in the R. K. Platte home Sunday. Mrs. Hutton and daughter have been staying with her father, Hei beri, i Russ, in O’Neill. Carolyn Adams arrived home I Friday from Denver, Colo., where she is attending college, to spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Adams. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Turner, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Thomson and family drove to Page Sunday to . visit in the Geo. Rost home. Norman Walter, Darold Hoer le, and Donald Haake came Fri- I day from Winfield, Kans., where they attend college to spend the holidays with their parents. Nor man Walter is college bus chauf fer and brought a bus load of students from Winfield, Kans., the last getting off in O’Neill. The Happy Home-makers club met Friday, December 15, at the home of Mrs. Max Farrier with 26 present. The ladies’ husbands were guests. The evening was spent playing games after which oyster stew, chili and cake was served. The next meeting will be on January 19 at the home of f Mrs. Bayne Grubb. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Alderson came Thursday from Flat, Alas ka, for a visit with his brother, T. E. Alderson, and wife and oth- j er relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Thorin and children drove to Petersburg Sunday to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Esau. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Dankert drove to North Platte Thu sday, December 14, returning Friday. Mrs. Anna Albers was a din ner guests in the John Honey well home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Mod calf have purchased the house be longing to Mrs. Gertrude Mina han in Amelia and are preparing to move it this week to then property in the south part of Chambers. Ed Smith and Leo L. Smith, who purchased the Shelhamer building in Chambers, have en larged the building by enclosing the porch on the front. It will be used for their lumber business. Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Hansber ry and son, of Kearney, spent Sunday with his parents, Rev. and Mrs. L. R. Hansbe ry. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Grimes and Bonnie expect to move on to a purbred Hereford ranch near Greeley, Colo., where he has em ployment, shortly after Christ muffi. They returned Thursday, December 14, from a trip to see about the work and to make ar rangements to move. Mrs. Duane Sherman, or uree ley, Colo., came last Thursday to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Rasmussen. Mr. and Mrs. Hairt, of Council Bluffs, la., are guests of her sis ter, Mrs. Sarah Adams. They plan to stay for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Dean V. Stevens and children, of Atkinson, spent Sunday in the E. R. Carpenter home. , _ _ Mr .and Mrs. Frank Houston, of Sedro Wooley, Wash., who vis ited their son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Adams, and boys a few weeks ago and have since been visiting relatives in Illinois, returned to Chambers last week for a few days, leaving Monday, December 18, for their home in Washington. The junior group of the Amer ican Legion auxiliary held a bake sale at the Smith store Sat urday, December 16. Mrs. Hazel Miller, of Chicago, 111., arrived Saturday to attend the funeral services for her bro ther. A. R. Bell, held on Monday, December 18, at the Chambers Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Mitchell are remodeling and building on to their home in the west part of town. Andrew Gilbert is assist ing Mr. Mitchell with the work. Mr. and Mrs. George C. Smith left Sunday for Omaha. Home Before Leaving for Duty — Francis B. Luben, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Luben, a senior at Colorado State college of ed ucation at Greeley, is home until January 4 to spend the holidays with his parents. Mr. Luben, a reservist in the navy, will report in Denver and then San Francis co, Calif., for active duty. Miss Birmingham Receives Honors— Miss Barbara Birmingham, a junior at Duchesne college in Omaha, was cited for academic honors by being named on the dean’s list. She also served on the decorations committee for the Christmas formal held at tho college Sunday evening. Home for Holidays— SPENCER — Miss Patricia Kirk, of Spencer, is visiting her parents for the holidays. Ticklers By George I v>'\uHi| “But you said to round up everybody that looked suspicious!” Mr. and Mrs. William Artus are driving to Sioux City today (Thursday) to bring home the latter’s sister, Miss Dorothy Iler, who is a student at Briarcliff college. Edward Condon, son of Mrs. Hope Condon, is expected to spend the holidays here. He is in the naval training program at the University of Nebraska. H. J. Lohaus was in Omaha on business Monday. Mrs. Mike Mullen and Jim, of Emmet, were Sunday supper guests at the John J. Mullen home. Little Mary Ellen Mullen, daughter of the John Mullens, is spending a few days with her grandmother in Emmet. Miss Marjorie McElhaney, of Denver, Colo., will meet her par ents, the Ted McElhaneys, in Grand Island Friday and return with them for a four days’ visit. Mr. and Mrs. L. W. McQuistan, of Spencer, visited C. M. Mc Glasson Saturday evening. It was Mr. McGiasson’s birthday anni Iversary. Miss Nancy Froelich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Froelich, will be home from Duchesne college in Omaha for the holi days. Mrs. John F. Carroll, of Lin coln, arrived Tuesday at the home of her mother, Mrs. Wil liam J. Biglin. Mr. Carroll will arrive Friday to spend the holi days here. Allen Martin, of Wayne State Teachers college, is spending the holidays with his mother, Mrs. Henry Martin. Mr. and Mrs. William Hubby and Miss Virginia Rouse were Monday dinner guests at the home of Mrs. Carrie Borg. Miss Lou Ann Iler is expected home from the University of Ne braska to spend the holidays with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Sumner Downey. Monday dinner guests at the home of Mrs. Hazel Boatman were her daughter and her hus band, Mr. and Mrs. Wilber Lange, of Atkinson, and Mr. and Mrs. Vern Wilkinson, of Cham bers. Mrs. Ralph Stowell and Mrs. Carl Lorenz went to Atkinson Saturday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Camp bell went to Omaha last Thurs day to see their son, Edward, a student at Creighton university. D., for • - Christmas will be Mr. and Mrs. Leo Culhane and son, Larry. They will visit their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Culhane, sr., and Mr. and Mrs. William Wilaby. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Langan spent Wednesday, December 13, in Norfolk. Today (Thursady) Mr. and Mrs. Howard Dean and family are leaving for Lincoln where they will visit their parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Dean and Mr. and Mrs. S. Pearson. Lawrence Dexter spent the weekend in Amelia with his grandparents, the Eld Dexters. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Heiser and children, of Monowi, visited Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Collins and family. Wally Shelhamer, a student at Wayne State Teachers college, is home with his parents, the R. G. Shelhamers for the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dexter, of Amelia, visited the Arthur Dex ter family Monday. Darrel Weingartner, son of the George Weingartners, is spend ing the holidays at home. He at tends Wayne State Teachers col lege. v Richard Moses, of Lincoln, vis ited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Moses, from last Thursday un til Saturday morning. Dr. and Mrs. L. A. Carter left Monday morning for Sheridan, Wyo., to attend the wedding on Wednesday of their granddaugh ter. Mrs. Lawrence Rothchild and Mrs. Garold Rothchild and Cher yl, of Atkinson, visited Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dexter last Thurs day. Miss Mary Devine Brennan is expected home from Lincoln to spend Christmas with her moth er, Mrs. F. N. Brennan. Her bro ther, Lt. Herbert O. Brennan, is on his way home from Scotland. Her sister, Miss Patricia, a stu dent at St. Mary’s college, Xav ier, Kans., is home for the holi days. Guy Harris will be home for the Christmas holidays. He will spend them with his mother, Mrs. Esther C .Harris. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle M. Green attended the wedding Sunday of her nephew, Clayton Muller, of Lynch, to Miss Annabeile Tarr, of Butte, at Spencer. Tfte newlyweds were Monday dinner guests at the Green home. They were on their way to Kingsley, la., where they will make their home. Paul Moseman will meet his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mose man, in Lincoln and they’ll re turn to spend Christmas here. Paul is a student at the Univer sity of Nebraska. Mrs. Jack Kellar, of Chambers, visited her niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Arlo A. Hiatt, Sunday I and Monday.
