CARDS OF THANKS WE WISH to thank each and ev eryone for the mass offerings, flowers, gifts and all acts of kindness shown us before and after the death of our wife and mother.—Leo Carney & Jack. 27p50 WE WISH TO THANK our rela tives and friends for the cards, flowers, letters and gifts on the occasion of our golden wedding anniversary.—Mr. and Mrs- W. F. Grothe, Emmet.27p50 Edward and Pat Win Recognition for Summer’s Work Edward, 20, and Patrick, 19, sons of Mr and Mrs. Ed Hoyle who live seven miles south east of O’Neill, are two of 42 Ne braska 4-H winner project cham pions for 1950. Young Ed Boyle set out in the spring of 1950 to capture the state award for home ground improve ment. He succeeded. Now Boyle is competing for regional honors which, if suc cessful, is accompanied by an all-expense trip to Chicago. 111., and also for national recogni tion. Edward outlined his plans for transforming the Boyle plpce. He kept accurate account of the costs and the amount of time spent. When he had finished his project in October, he had fenced the yard, seeded the yard, cleaned the yard, painted all the build ings including the house, sprayed the weeds and built a bridge a cross the Elkhorn river, which flows through the yard. Today the Boyle farmstead sparkles with trim and order. Even the old courthouse (a log cabin which was Holt county’s original capitol) was brought in to the beautification program. A novel part of the project was the erection of a suspension bridge. Edward used fence wire anchored to trees on either side of the stream. He then built a wood slat floor. As many as 20 persons have been on the bridge and it stood the test. The bridge reduces the haz ard in crossing the river and shortens the route to the pas ture. While Brother Edward was oc cupied with ground improvement Brother Pat was busy in his gar den, which was judged by a group of county agents as the outstanding gardening project in the state. COMPLETES COURSE Raymond Smith, of O’Neill, was one of 23 who completed a five-week training course at a camp near Ashland for the Ne braska safety patrol.
