Mesdames Conway, Jensen Join Club EMMET—The Victory Home makers met at the home of Mrs. Jim Conway Wednesday, June 14, with a covered dish luncheon being served at noon. The day was spent sewing for the orphanage. Two new mem bers joined—Mrs. Clara Con way and Mrs. John Jensen. Other Emmet Newt The Victory Homemakers card club met Sunday evening, June 18, at the Jim Conway home with 5 tables of progres sive pitch being played. Ray Tunender won high for the men and John Jensen low. Mrs. John Jensen won high for the ladies and Mrs. Mary Moore, of Den ver, Colo., won low. Later in the evening lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Kloppen borg and daughter, Wynona, spent Saturday evening and Sunday, June 17-18, visiting Mrs. Kloppenborg’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Stuart, at Cozad. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Newton and son, Dewey, of O’Neill, vis ited at the Dean Perry home Monday afternoon, June 19. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Dailey left last week for North Platte where they will visit their son, Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Dailey, and family for some time. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil McMillan spent Sunday, June 18, at New port visiting Mr. and Mrs. Har old McMillan and daughters. Mrs. Robert Fox called on Mrs Bill Kramer in O’Neill on Wednesday, June 14. Mrs. Walter Pease and child ren, of O’Neill, visited Mrs. Ag nes Gaffney Saturday evening, June 17. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Weichman, of Stuart, Ed Winkler, of Butte, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Winkler were Sunday, June 18, dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Weber at Ainsworth. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Farr and sons and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Farr, of O’Neill, and Mr. and Mrs. Ow en Hayes, of Atkinson, visited at the Clarence Farr home on Sunday, June 18. Mrs. Leo Weichman and Joe Winkler spent Monday and Tuesday, June 19 and 20, visit* , ing Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Winkler at North Platte. Mrs. Frank Foreman and Jeanie Kay visited Mrs. Claude Bates and Mrs. Ivan Pruss and sons at O’Neill Friday afternoon, June 16. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Fox and daughters, of Downey, Calif., accompanied by Marie Fox, of 1 O’Neill, left for their home Wed I nesday morning, June 14, after spending some time visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles ! Fox and family at O’Neill and : other relatives at Emmet. Don Godel, of O’Neill, spent a few days last week at the W. R. Tenborg home. Hugh O’Connor, of Atkinson, visited at the James O’Connor home Sunday afternoon, June 18. Sharon Wagnan spent Tues day night and Wednesday, June 13 and 14, at the Wayne Fox home. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Patterson were Thursday evening, June 15, visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Price, of Waterloo, la., who are visiting at the Leon Price home near O’Neill. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Fox and sons, Mr. and Mrs. George Brain ard and family, Mrs. Estella Kendall and Mr. and Mrs. Gil bert Fox were Sunday, June 18, supper guests at the Chas. Fox home at O’Neill. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mlinar and family were Friday evening, June 18, visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Brown. Raymond Fox, of O Neill, is spending the week visiting Steven Fox. Edmund O’Donnell, of Cali fornia, is spending some time visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James O’Donnell. The WSCS of the Methodist church met Thursday afternoon, June 15, with Mrs. Charles Abart. Twenty- were in atten dance. ReVerend and Mrs. Hughes and children were guests. Mrs. Hughes became a new member. The lesson was given by Mrs. Guy Beckwith. A lunch was served. Next meeting will be with Mrs. Sewell John son. The South Side Improvement club met at the home of Mrs. D. C. Schaffer in O’Neill with 10 members and 3 guests pres ent. Roll call was answered with food freezing hints. The yearbook for the coming term was presented and approved. The meeting was concluded with the annual tea. Extension Club Studies Textile Painting— PAGE — The page extension club met with Mrs. A. L. Dorr on Tuesday, June 13. Eleven members and 6 guests were present. Roll call was answered by giving a favorite hobby. A collection of $15 was taken to be sent to the international children’s relief project. Mrs. A. G. Braddock gave the lesson on "Textile Painting” and Mrs. Ed gar Stauffer on “Shell Jewelry.” Several members made earrings and brooches. Luncheon was served. Wood Family PAGE — Relatives have re i ceived word of the death of' Mrs. Minnie Moffat, who pass- 1 ed away Friday evening, June 1 I 16, at her home near Okarchee, | Okla. Funeral services were j j held there Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Moffat, the former Miss Minnie Wood, daughter of Mr. ' j and Mrs. C. L. Wood, was among the early settlers here where | she grew to womanhood. She was the oldest of 14 children. She taught in the rural schoo's several years. Mrs. Moffat was married to Jimmy Moffat in the spring of 1901 and went to Oklanoma where she has since made her j home with the exception of 2 j years tey spent on a farm near ! Page. Three children were born | to this union. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Andrew Moffat. Survivors include: daughter— Alice Moffat; son—Jimmy Mof fat; 2 grandchildren; 3 broth ers—Fred and Edgar Wood, of METHODIST (O'Naill) Rev. V. R. Senior MYF, 7:30 p.m. Our daily vacation Bible school closed Friday with a pic nic for the entire school. Sun day evening the entire school presented a program in the form of a worship service which in cluded some of the work learn ed during the 2 weeks. There was a junior choir who sang several times during the ser vice, under the direction of Mrs. John Watson, with Mrs. Earl Rodman at the piano. The faculty for the school in cluded Mrs. Clay Johnson, jr., ! superintendent, Mrs. Robert Kurtz,I Mrs. Neil Dawes, Mrs. Crumley, Peggy Aim, Beverly Norman, Mrs. John Watson, Mrs. Earl Rodman, Mrs. Ed Ol son, Vernyce Dye, Wilma Mc Kim and Rev. and Mrs. Bell. There were 109 enrolled with an average attendance of 90. There was an exhibition in the basement Sunday evening of hand work for the parents to see. The Young Adult Fellowship met Tuesday evening in the church parlors for a meeting and party. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hill and Mr. and Mrs. Reed Her ley were hosts. The senior MYF camp began at Ponca Sunday evening and the intermediate camp begins next Sunday evening. Let us keep our attendance up j in Sunday-school during the summer months. It was well attended and many expressed their ap preciation of the speakers and singers as well as the fellow ship of Christian people of dif- j ferent churches. Saturday afternoon the group Vent 3V2 miles west of town on the Clarence Ernst farm where a baptismal service was held. Eleven were baptized in the service and all felt it a part of the fotrunand of the Lord ful- j fill«l in the lives of these indi viduals. Those baptized were Evelyn Chapman, Joan Terrill, Ethel Haul, Francis Haul, Mrs. Violet Lamb, Ethel Lamb, Marvin Strong, Mrs. Edna Huebert, Rosa Lee Summers, Ethel Mae Sum mers and Katherine Summers. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Wood, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters, Mrs. Mary Flora and Dora and Mata Wood, who were drowned in the Elkhorn river at the age fo 10 and 12 years. Mrs. Will Neubauer left for Okarchee, last Thursday after receiving a message telling of the serious illness of her sister. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Wood went to Lincoln Saturday where they were met by M.rs. Roy Haynes, Mildred and Elvin, of Denton. From there they all w'ent to Okarchee to attend the funeral. Engler Ranch Sells At $27 Per Acre STUART — The 880 - acre ranch, which has been the Peter Engler home for 44 years, was sold at auction on Wednesday, June 14. Mr. and Mrs. Engler have lived in Stuart for some time. Their son, Gilbert, and family reside on the place at present. John Hystrek purchased the entire tract at $27 per acre. Frontier for printing. I Plan for Annual Club Picnic— PAGE — The Golden Rule extension club held its regular meeting Tuesday, June 13, at the home of Mrs. William Fink. Roll call was answered by 11 members. Mrs. Viola Damkroger, home extension agent, and Mrs. Wil bur Smith, were guests. An interesting lesson on “Tex tile Painting” was presented by Mrs. Ivan Heiss and Miss Lura Grass. Several members brought paints. Stencils were drawn and cut so that each member paint ed a design. Group singing wa3 enjoyed by the club. Next meeting will be July 11 at the home of Miss Lura Grass. The club members are making plans to attend the annual club picnic at O’Neill June 22. Cub Scouts Entertain At Picnic— On Monday evening, June 19, Cub Scouts with their parents and other members of their families along with their den leaders met in Ford’s park for a picnic. Nearly all Cubs were present. After a weiner roast and sup per they sang songs, played games and presented several skits. Elmer Spann is building a new home in Atkinson and the construction of the building got underway this week. Mrs. Johnson Entertains Club— The O’Neill Garden club met Friday, June 16, at the home of Mrs. May Johnson. The mem bers took a tour through sev eral gardens. All the members were pres ent. They answered roll call pertinent to flowers. Refresh ments were served. Announce Engagement— Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Zakr zewski have announced the en gagement of their daughter, Helen, to Bill Heck, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Heck, of Lincoln.
