RUTH HOFFMAN, County Clerk of Holt County ALBERT STERNS, Chairman 6-9 “However, when every 32 minutes an American citizen en counters death on his job, and when every 16 seconds another worker suffers a disabling in jury, it is time for employers, employees and the general pub lic to sit up and do something about it. The Frontier is the ideal med ium for reaching Holt county people who need to be provided with the latest information con cerning industrial accidents and the modern methods of avoid ing them" Secretary Tobin pointed out that, according to statistics, more workers suffered disabl ing injuries between 10 and 11 a m. and between 3 and 4 p. m. than during any hours of the day. Tobin said, “It is in the smal ler business or plant that the influence of accident prevention techniques is particularly need ed. Individually, the small bus iness concern does not have a startling number of accidents during any one year. However, considering all small business firms collectively, they report a greater number of accidents annually than the larger plants. “I do not mean to say that management in smaller plants is less considerate, but rather to point out where general education can be especially helpful. Most big plants have safety specialists and accident prevention workers constantly on the job- The much more nu merous small plants often must look to outside sources for help," secretary Tobin concluded. Tobin, secretary of labor and general chairman of the President’s conference on industrial safety, has revealed. “The fact that the president of the United States has called a national conference on indus trial safety,” Secretary Tobin declared, “bears testimony to the gravity of this problem.
