The town has been without a band for about 4 years. A band club has been form ed and rehearsals are being held each Monday. On Fishing Trip— G. C. DeBacker and 6on, Thomas, a seminary student at St. Paul, Minn., left Wednes day, June 7, for a 3-weeks' fish ing trip to the Ozarks. They al so expect to attend a reunion of about 13 DeBacker boys. Eight candidates for “Miss Stuart" were announced after the balloting during the Amer ican Legion dance held Tues day, May 30. They are Doris Davis, Juanita Kaup, Mildred Kaup, Patricia Engler, Margar et Kramer, Arleen Wewel, Theo Weichman and Bernelda Bolen. “Miss Stuart” will be chosen by popular vote by Stuart resi dents. The winner will receive $25 and be presented at the dance Monday night, July 3. Other plans are the Winner Bassett baseball game along with a horse show in the after noon of July 4, also fireworks and a dance in the evening. A carnival company has been contracted for both days of the celebration. Graduates from Nurses' Training STUART—Miss Dolores Bat enhorst graduated from the St. Joseph’s hospital unit of Creigh ton university on Thursday, June 1. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Batenhorst, Maureen and Mich ael drove to Omaha Wednesday morning, May 31, to attend the baccalaureate that evening and graduation exercises on Thurs day morning. This was Creigh ton’s largest class of graduates. Other former residents of Stu art who were in the graduating class were: Miss Mary Ann Ol berding, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lew Olberding and Miss Mary Conley, sister of Mrs. Francis Lee, both of whom graduated from St. Joseph’s hos pital unit, and Johnny Buford, who graduated from law school. Attend Funeral In Spalding— Mr. and Mrs. G. C. DeBack er attended the funeral of the latter’s uncle, J. C. Sullivan, in Spalding Monday, May 29. Francis P. Matthews, secre tary of the navy, who is related to Mrs. DeBacker and the late Mr. Sullivan, flew to Spalding to attend the funeral.
