250 Allend Party — l More than two hundred and fifty persons attended the Friends of St. Mary’s-sponsor ed benefit party Sunday eve ning in the gymnasium. Mrs. James Harding won a basket of fruit. High bridge honors went to D. R Mounts and Mrs. Ira Moss. Pinochle honors were shared by Mrs William Clauson and Harry Sullivan. Pitch high scores went to Mrs. G. Minahan and Dick Minton. Pinochle Party At Greens— Saturday evening winners at a pinochle party held a* the Lyle Green home were Mrs. Norman Medcalf and Mrs. Neil F. Clarke, for the ladies, and Harvey Sawyer and Lawrence Dexter, for the men. Birthdays Noted— Edward McCarthy celebrated his 18th birthday anniversary Tuesday at a family dinner party. His guest was Miss Mar jorie Troshynski. Saturday, his sister. Kathiyn Ann McCarthy, celebrated her ninth birthday anniversary for nine 1 i t ♦. 1 e friends. After attending the theatre, they returned to the McCarthy home for refresh ments. Douglas McKenzie Is 1-Year-Old— Little Douglas McKenzie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde McKen zie, jr., celebrated his first birth day anniversary Sunday at the home of his maternal grand parents, the Clyde Streeters. His pa e nal grandparents, the Clyde McKenzie, sr., Mr. and Mrs. Dean Streeter, and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Streeter were the other guests. M,r& J. P. Brown Is Highest Season Scorer— Winners at the Country club luncheon held Wednesday, Feb ruary 1, under tht direction of the Mesdames L. A. Burgess and Edward Wilson were: Mrs. H. E. Coyne, high, and Mrs. C. V. Sullivan, all-cut. Mrs. J. P. Brown was the recipient of the distinction for having the high est score for the midwinter sea son. Dianne Gillespie Is 4— Little Dianne Gillespie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Gillespie, entertained 10 little guests Sunday in honor of her fourth birthday anniversary. Entertains Little Guests— Little Marlene Benda, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Benda, entertained five little guests Sunday at her home to celebrate her sixth birthday anniversary. Rex Horner, of North Platte, exchanged nuptial vows in St. Patrick’s Catholic church last Thursday, Febru ary 2. Mrs. Horner, daughter of P V. More Portable Tables To Be Purchased— The regular February meet ing of Simonson unit 93, of the American Legion auxiliary, was held on Wednesday evoking, February 1, in the lounge at the Legion club. Sixty members | weie in attendance. A report was made by President Mrs. Ira H. Moss on contributions of i clothing for needy children in ! connection with child welfare work. The matter of completing drapery for the window wall of the lounge room was discussed, and a committee under t h e •chairmanship of Mrs. Guy Cole was named to make necessary purchases and Complete the draperies. Mis. M. E. Jacobson reported on the March of Dimes solicita tion and thanked the auxiliary for its part. President Moss and Vice President Mrs. Don Enright i repot ted on banquet and din ner activities. After discussion it was unanimously voted to | purchase 12'more of the port j able banquet tables. The name of Mrs. Ella Grimm 1 was drawn for the attendance i award and she was presented I $15 Martha Club Views Calves— The Martha club met at the Ray Hoffman home Saturday afternoon, January 28. Out leader, Clair McVay, passed out the new club mater ial and instructed new members how to use it. After the busin ess meeting we looked at Pete’s j calves. O'NEILL LOCALS Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Lord, of Santa Ana, Calif., arrived Tues day for an extended visit in the home of Mr. and Mi's. D. H. Clauson. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Asimus returned recently from Detroit, Mich., where they visited rela tives and where Mr. Asimus conducted business with the Kaiser - Frazer corporation at nearby Willow Run. Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Switzer visited Mrs. Frederick Shinck, of Brunswick Saturday. From there they drove to a hospital in Plainview to visit his moth er, Mrs. Mary Switzer. Mrs. James Sullivan and chil dren visited her brother, who is ill, in Norfolk over the week end. Rev. Ralph Gerber drove to South Bend, Ind., to meet h:s wife and two children, Timothy and Rebecca who had flown there. Mrs. Gerber and the chil dren had visited in OJmo and , Indianna for three weeks. They art ived home Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Young were guests in Norfolk over the weekend with friends. John Berrigan and his room mate from Falls City, visited John’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J J. Berrigan. for the weekend. Auxiliary’ Discusses 1-Act Play Program CHAMBERS — The Ameri can Legion auxiliary held its regular meeting at the home of Mrs John Honeywell Friday evening. February 3, with 25 members and 4 visitors present At the business session, con ducted by the president, Mrs. Tillie Walter, plans were dis cussed for a one - act play and other entertainment to be given the evening of February 22, at the town hall. Plans were also made for a Legion and auxiliary party to be held March 10 at the Legion club room. It was decided to have a kit chen shower at the next meet ing on March 3. Plans for opening a library and youth center were discus sed and left to community ser vice committee for action. Lunch was served by a com mittee composed of Ruth Wal ter, Cora Wyant and Genevieve Bell. Valley Center Talks About Youth Center CHAMBERS — The Valley Center extension dub met on Friday, February 3, at the home of Mrs. K. N. Adams. Plans were discussed for working with other organizations to open a library and youth center at the Legion club room. Mrs- Richard Smith was guest-of-honor at a surprise party on her birthday anniver sary Tuesday, January 31, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ver non Van Horn. Other guests were: Mis. Van Horn’s mother, Mrs- Sacket, and Mrs. Willard Thomson. A lunch of open fac ed sandwiches, coffee, cake and fruit salad was seived. Mrs. Smith received several gifts. Small and Mr. and Mrs. George Fullerton attended the banquet sponsor ed by the Atkinson Service club for 4-H leaders and assistant leaders.
