Nuptials Read
Christ Lutheran church was
the scene of a wedding Sunday
when Mis Joan Calkins, daugh
ter of Mrs. Lottie Ridgeway, of
O’Neill, and Walter Spangler,
son of Mr. and Mrs. William
Spangler, of Ewing, exchanged
marriage vows before an altar
decorated with peonies and
daises. Rev. Clyde O. Cress of
ficiated.
The bride was attired in a la
vender street-length dress com
plemented with white accessor
ies. She wore a short veil on
her head. Her only jewelry con
sisted of a strand of pearls, a
gift of the bridegroom.
Miss June Calkins acted as
bridesmaid. She wore a pale
green street-length dress with
white accessories.
Raymond Calkins, cousin of
the bride, attended the bride
groom as best man.
After a short wedding trip to
Lake Andes, S. D., the young
couple will make their home on
a farm near Ewing.
Mrs. Cone Hostess—
The Star Light club met on
Friday at the home of Mrs.
Ivan Cone. There were nine
members present. Only one
member was unable to attend.
Mrs. Anna Brown was a guest.
The highlight of the meeting
was the planning for the Holt
county extension club picnic
which is to be held Thursday,
June 16. A covered dish lunch
eon was served.
The next meeting was held
Wednesday at the home of
Mrs. Theodore Strong.
Attend Kin's Wedding—
Mrs. Herbert Kaiser and
children spent four days last
week with her sister, Mrs,
Raymond Soucek, and family,
near Verdigre. Last Thursday
they all attended their cousin’s
wedding in Bloomfield. Donald

church in Bloomfield and in
the evening they had a wed
ding dance in ZCBJ hall in
Verdigre.

Mrs. J. L. Sherbahn enter
tained the Wednesday After
noon Bridge club at her home.
Smiths Return
from Southeastern Tour—
Mr. and Mrs. Mike A. Smith,
the Misses Doris Smith and
Nelda Veieh, and Duane Miller
returned Friday from a two
weeks’ tour of' 14 states. They
attended the wedding of their
son, S/Sgt. Deraid Smith, and
Miss Myra Williams in Florida.
After going to Daytona Beach.
Fla., they visited Mrs. Smith’s
sister, Mrs. Joseph Martin, in
Houston, Tex.
They also visited in the Oz
ark mountains with some
friends, formerly of Bassett.
They were Mr. and Mrs. Char
les Riley, of Sleeper, Mo.
Returns from Sioux City—
Miss Mary Carney returned
Sunday from Sioux City where
she spent a week visiting her
sister, Mrs. Marguerite Curtis.
While there she attended the
graduation exercises of her
; her niece, Marilyn Jean Cur
tis, at Briar Cliff college, on
Wednesday, June 1.

Win at Club—
The Duo Dex club met on
Monday at the Tom Tom for
| dinner. Afterward, they play
' ed bridge at the home of
Mrs. Eugene Cantlon. Mrs.
Harrison Bridge, who was a
guest, and Mrs. William Ardis
were high score winners.
Patricia Brennan
Is Attending Music Festival—
Miss Patricia Brennan,
daughter of Mrs. F. M. Bren
nan, went to Lincoln Monday
to attend the all-state music
festival. She will be gone three
weeks.
Mrs. Gatz
Is Hostess—
Delta Dek club winners last
Thursday were Mrs. Edward
Campbell and Mrs. William J.
Froeiich. The hostess was Mrs.
C. J. Gatz.
Cousins Are Boys', Girls'
State Representatives —
ATKINSON — Janet Judge
and Bernard Troshynski are at
tending girls’ and boys’ state
at Lincoln this week. Janet is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
J. E. Judge, and Bernard is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Aug
ust Troshynski. The two young
people are cousins.
