Project Club Elects— Mrs. M. E. Asher was host ess to the Friendly Neighbor Project club Thursday, Sep tember 23. An election of of ficers was held. New officers are: Mrs. Roy D. Johnson, president; Mrs. Don Loy, vice president; Mrs. Dorrance Crabb, secretary - treasurer; Mrs. Raymond Eby, news re porter. There were 11 mem bers present. Mrs. Harold Se ger was a guest and she join * ed the club that day. Redmonds Honored— Mr. and Mrs .Jack Red mond, of Omaha, were enter tained at a dinner party Sat urday given in their honor by Mr. and Mrs. William J. Froe lich. Mrs. Ed Campbell and Mrs. Hugh Birmingham were / host esses at a breakfast Sunday in honor of the Redmonds. The breakfast was held at the M & M cafe. Church Dinner at C. E. Worth Home — The Assembly of God church congregation gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Worth Sunday for dinner. Mr. and Mrs. George Twam ley, .who were hoiiseguests of * the Worths, and Mr. and Mrs. Harley Peerboom, of Bristow, were special guests. Busy Bees Begin Class in Culinary Acts — The O’Neill Busy Bee 4-H club held a party Tuesday eve ning. They finished their sew ing and organized a cooking club for the Winter months. Mrs. George Mellor is lead er, assisted by Mrs. Robert E. Stevens. Wilsons New to O'Neill — Last Thursday, Mrs. Edward Wilson and three children, for merly of Harlan, la., joined Mr. Wilson. They are residing tn the McMillan-Markey home. Mr. Wilson is superintendent of the Niobrara Valley Elec: * trie Membership Corporation. Inman and Page Fishermen Return Saturday — Leo Tompkins, Earl Watson and W. W. Watson, of Inman and Ray Snell, of Page; con cluded a 10-days’ fishing trip Saturday. They fished at Ait kens, Minn., and report "very good ludk.” —— Dine at Tom-Tom — A “no hostess” party was held by the Pinochle club Tuesday evening. There was a dinner at the Tom-Tom cafe, after which the group went to the Royal theater. J*VRS PABL . . . Cousins Honored — Larry Wayne Bourne mark ed his first birthday anniver sary Saturday, September 25, by attending a dinner given for him and his cousin, Margie Wyant, who will be two on Friday, October 1. LEIDY • —O'NEILL — Ben Grady returned Sunday from a two-weeks’ vacation in Dallas, Tex. Mr. and Mrs. John Tobin, of Kansas City, Mo., spent a few days visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McElvain. They left Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kirk Datrick and sons, Bobby and Jerry, and Mrs. Mae Keller went to Clearwater Sunday to visit Mrs. Keller’s sister, Mrs, Roy Stevens, and Mr. Stevens. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. McNa mara and son, Bobby, left on Tuesday for their home in Julesburg, Colo., after having spent about 10 days here visit ing friends. H. H. Lowery returned hormx from Emmett Tuesday. He had been staying at the William O’Connor home while the O’ Connors were on a vacation. Sunday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs. Virgil L. Laursen were Mr. and Mrs. Bernie Al len and children, of Page. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kurt? and family spent the weekend in Long Pine as guests of the James Kurtz family. Mrs. H. H. Lowery visited in Emmet Tuesday at the Grant Peacock home. Returning last Thursday from Clearwater, where she had spent overnight at the home of her brother, Walter Petras, was Mrs. Mae Keller. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Dob rovonly and son and daughter formerly of south of Atkinson have moved to the George Rector place. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph De George and children. Ronnie and Linda, arrived Sunday to be guests at the Lyle C. Mc Kim home for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Nolan De Losh. of Stuart, were guests Monday , of Mr. and Mrs. M B. Mar cellus. Mr. and Mrs. Art Dexter and family spent Sunday visit ing Mr. Dexter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dexter, of Ame ua. Mrs. R. A. Coffman, of Abi lene, Tex., and Camella Coff man. of San Antonio. Tex., ar rived Saturday to visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Diehlman. Mrs. Coffman is Mrs. Diehlman’s mother, and Camella is a niece. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Peacock, of Long Pine, were business callers in O’Neill Tuesday. Msr. Dora Doyle and Mrs. Fred Heermanri iahd children spent the weekend at Brocks burg visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Doyle. Mr. and Mrs. James G. Fred* rickson spent Sunday in Long Pine visiting at the home of Mr. Fredrickson’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. Fredrickson. Mrs. Clay Johnson, sr., at tended the Dixon county WCTU convention at Allen Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hansen and family, of Ainsworth, vis ited this week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Jonas. Mr. and Mrs. Dan McKenzie of Winner, S. D.„ Mr. and Mrs. Clyde McKenzie and fam ily, of Spencer, and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde McKenzie, jr., of O’Neill, Tuesday attended the funeral services for Pfc. Ted McKenzie at Maxwell. Mr. and Mrs. ^ John McCar thy and family, of Omaha, spent the weekend visiting friends and relatives here. Catherine McCarthy return ed Friday from a five-weeks’ trip to Boise, Ida., and Bur bank, Calif. Jack Robertson, of Bassett, visited his sister, Mrs. M. B. Marcellus, last Thursday. These peo ple are citizens of Berlin, not imprisoned but simply watching through the fence around the Allied control council in the Ger man capital as the Allied and Soviet military governors were meeting once more in an effort to ease the dangerous situation in that city. And the anxiety on these faces is the anxiety of the world, possibly excepting the Russians, who seem be doing all they can to promote more anxiety. MRS. BLAIR . . . Before her marriage on Sunday, Sep tember 5, Mrs. Benjamin Blair was Miss Eunice Couch. Mrs. Blair is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Couch, of O’Neill. Mr. Blair is the son of Mi*, and Mrs. Ralph Blair, of Cham bers. They were united in marriage at the Lutheran parsonage in Chambers. Rev. L. A. Dale officiated in the double-ring ceremony. Mrs. Saunlo Is Hostess at Fall Opening — The first meeting of the Fall season for the GFF club was held Wednesday afternoon, September 22, at the home of Mrs. Fred Saunto. Mrs. Edward T. Verzal won high score and Mrs. W B. Gil lespie won second high. Mrs. A. W. Carroll won high score for the guests and Mrs. Earl J. Rodman won the all-cut. Miss Gwen McKim Becomes Mars. Wales — Mr. and Mrs. Lyle C. McKim received word of the marriage of their daughter, Gwen, to Dale Wales, of Santa Barbara, Calif. The ceremony took place at the Gretna Green wedding chapel at Las Vegas, Nev., on Saturday, September 18. Mrs. Wales is a graduate of O’Neill high school. Teen Agers Frolic — Thirty teen agers attended the “kickoff” party held last Thursday at the manse of the Presbyterian church. Games and refreshments were in keeping with the foot ball atmosphere created by the hosts. Febekah Moving to Oregon Honored — Mrs. Charles E. Vorce was guest-of-honor at a handker chief farewell shower Tuesday evening given by the Rebek ahs at the lodge hall. Mr. and Mrs. Vorce are mov ing to Oregon this week. Mr. and Mrs. Yarges went by way of Black Hills and the Bad Lands on highway 85. They visited historic places in Dead wood and Mouse Jaw and Regina, Saskatchewan, heart of the wheat growing section. They said that farmers in Sas katchewan Valley were har vesting bumper crops of wheat, flax and oats. At Regina, which has a pop ulation of 60,000, they visited the training center for the Royal Mounted police. They drove through the scenic sec tion of Ft. Qu-Appelle, on to Winnepeg, Manitoba, which is called “Gateway to the Golden West” and is an important manufacturing center. The Red and Asseneboine rivers flow through Winnepeg. Mr. and Mrs. Yarges also visited Lake Winnepeg, which is about 60 miles north of the city, where a large resort is lo cated. They returned to Ne braska by way of Minnesota, North and South Dakota. SICK & INJURED O’NEILL — Mrs. Esther C. Harris went Saturday to see her daughter. Miss Betty Har ris, K. N.. who is a patient at the Methodist hospital in Sioux City. Miss Betty, who is recuperating from an attack of pneumonia, is "doing well.” Mrs. Harris drove in with Mrs. D. C. Schaffer, Elizabeth and Larry Schaffer and Mrs George Rector. . . Mrs. Her man Klingler is unable to be up and around yet. . . . Man ford Ross, who is a patient at the Methodist hospital in Sioux City, is “not doing too well." ’ ’ Mrs. Charles Cham bers, sr., who broke her hip Saturday evening, was operat ed on Tuesday morning at the Methodist hospital in Sioux City. Charles Chambers, jr., Mrs. H. E. Asher and Mrs. M E. Asher drove in to see thei? mother on Tuesday afternoon. Her condition is "good.” . . . Mrs. Mike A. Smith, who was operated on in a hospital in Valentine on September 22, is "doing fine.” She expects to leave the hospital Thursday and stay in Valentine for a week with relatives before re turning home. . . Mrs. Charles Richter, jr., of Middlebranch, returned Tuesday from a hos pital in Norfolk. . . Fred Fet row, who is ill in the Metho dist hospital in Omaha, is ex pected home this week. Mr Fotrow underwent an eye op eration last week and at the latest report his condition is “good.” CHAMBERS— Bill Edwards seriously injured his • shoulder while cranking a tractor early this week. . . Robert Adams is a patient at St. Joseph’s hospi tal in Sioux City where he undewent a major operation. His mother and wife are stay ing with him. . . Mrs. Lee Mit chell returned Sunday from the Mary Lanning hospital at Hastings. . . Walt Richards re turned Wednesday from the Lutheran hospital at Norfolk. Atkinson — Mrs. Alfred Anderson was taken to a Nor folk hospital in the Seger am bulance Monday afternoon, September 27. She has been ill most of the Summer and her! condition became critical Sat urday evening.
