Schaffer Adds Story -
Book Finish to
West O’Neill
STUART — With the score
knotted eight-all in the last-hall
of the ninth, Stuart’s Keith
Schaffer singled, stole second
and third, and scored on a well
placed bunt to give his mates a
9-8 win over West O’Neill in a
story book finish to a Holt
Boyd league game here Sunday.
The setback was hard to take
for the Westerners, who outhit
their opponents 13-8 and whose
pitcher had whiffed 13 while
only four of theirs had gone
down swinging. Darrel Grahcm
hurled for West O’Neill; Ru
dolph for Stuart.
A fat third inning indicated
that the Westerners were on a
victory march. They scored sev
en of their eight tallies in that
frame with a collection of good
hits and a double by Fred Ap
pleby. West O’Neill led 8-7 go
ing into the last-half of the
ninth.

Disasterous 8th
Inning
Danny Helmer, hurler for the
O’Neill Rockets, saw his after- I
noon’s work wasted in the
eighth inning as O'Neill and At
kinson did battle before a fair
sized Sabbath crowd here. A
succession of infield bobbles,
including two charged against
Thirdbaseman Calkins, helped
Atkinson score three runs on
one hit in the disastrous eighth.

CHAMBERS — If the other
eight innings had been as in
teresting as the fifth the Lynch
Chambers game might still be
in progress. But Lynch punch
ed across one run in the third

commanding lead, and Cham
bers blew-up after the fifth and
the Boyd countyans poured on
four more.
Lynch’s A1 Carson, center
fielder, snagged a shoestring
line drive that ended Chambers
fifth-inning bid.

runners died on base and that's
not the way games are won.
Pitcher Art Johnson scattered
