McCARVILLE’S Former Champs to Compete in Tourney _ Dr. Paul Tipton, Omaha, Will Defend Title Won in 1946 Entries are pouring in for the 1947 edition of the Country club s golf tournament to be held here Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Heading the list is Dr. Paul W. • Tipton, of Omaha, the defending champion. Tipton won the 1946 title in a revival of the tourna ment following a wartime sus pension. Joe Baldwin, of Ainsworth, and Max Golden, of O'Neill, both former champions; A1 Mongerson, of Albion, runner up in the 1946 meet, and Jack Hillier, of Norfolk, city champ there, have entered the O Neill competition. Scovie Jaszkowiak and Max Golden, cochairmen of the ar rangements committee, said that other entries include golfers from Ainsworth, Bassett, St. Ed ward, Omaha, Norfolk, Neligh and Winner, S. D. There will be flights for all players, depend ing upon the entry list. * The prizes will be on display at McCarville’s store. A ladies’ bridge party will be in progress Sunday and Monday, and a dance Monday night will be the social highlight of the three-day affair. _ ______ I I _ NELIGH REVIVES HARNESS RACING NELIGH—Harness racing will return to northeast Nebraska for the first time in many years at the July 4 celebration to be held in Riverside park at Neligh. Race men from all over this part of the country will bring their trotters and pacers to Ne ligh for a revival of the races which John Kay’s champion Shade-On made famous here in the early 1900’s. Kay was among Nebraska’s foremost harness rac ing enthusiasts and it was he who built the large horse barn in Riverside park which has been renovated for the one-day race meet. In addition to the featured harness racing attraction, the Neligh American Legion’s cele bration will offer a $1,000 fire works display the evening of July 4 and a dance later at the HOLT-BOYD LEAGUE Team W L Pet.
