plaintiff filed her petition in the
District Court of Holt County,
Nebraska, against you as defen
dants, the object and prayer of
which is to quiet and confirm the
title in her, the said Caroline
Starr, to the following described
real estate, to-wit: The South
Half of Section Three, Township
Twentv-six North, Range Thir
teen, West of the 6tti P.M. in Holt
County, Nebraska, as against you
and each of you, and to secure a
Decree of Court that you have
no interest in, right or title to or

tasting tests. This method of
testing had not been conducted
during the war years. Members
of the testing board are all ex
perts, and will not swallow any
of the tea.

“We the jury in this case, be
ing duly impaneled and sworn,
do find the defendant, Ray
mond Musser, not guilty of
murder in the first degree, as
charged in the information,
but do find him guilty of man
slaughter.” This was the ver
dict of the jury that tried Ray
mond Musser in the district
court before Judge Kinkaid for
the murder of George A.
Spence. The jury was out four
hours. The case was hotly con
tested by the attorneys for both
sides. M. F. and J. J. Harring
ton represented the defendant,
while H. E. Murray and the
county attorney prosecuted. A
motion will be made for a new
trial.
The new bridge at Sioux City
will be used by the Pacific
Short Line. "By taking that
line at O’Neill you save three
hours time to Sioux City,” ac
cording to an advertisement.
The vitascope show at the
rink Saturday night will be
well-worth seeing. The ob- '
jects thrown on the screen have
such a lifelike appearance as
to make them veritable "living
pictures."
Delegations from Stuart and
Atkinson were before the Holt
county board this week. The
question of the removal of the
Grand Rapids bridge was the
magnet that drew our western
neighbors to the city.
The body of Peter Stiandel,
a bachelor living 10 miles south
of Niobrara, was found hang
ing by the neck in his house.
He is supposed to have been
hanging there for several
months as his neighbors claim
they have not seen him since
last year.
Editorial: Doc Matthews has
resurrected the Stuttgart Free
Press. . . . We doff our hats to
President McKinley. . . The
trans-Mississippi exposition is
booming. That’s right, shove
it along. . . War has been de
clared in the Populist camp.
25 Years Ago
Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Gallagher
entertained 20 couples at their
home on North Third street
Sunday evening. The event
was a “house-warming” cele
brating the completion of their
first years' residence in their
new home.
The O’Neill basketball team
packed their duds and journey
ed to Lincoln where they will
play Friday in the state tourna
ment. Those on the team are
Ralph Mellor, Joe Bella, Mc
Kinley Simonson, Bennet Gilli
gan, Merle Hatch, and George
Stannard. Arthur Hammond
is the coach.
Boge Catron met with a pain
ful accident Satuiday whnn th"

falling on Boge and breaking
his leg in four places.
Miss Elizabeth Flood, super
intendent of the Inman schooL,
left Tuesday for Battle Creek,
where she will attend the mil
itary funeral of her biother,
Frank Flood, whose remains
arrived from France last week
He died in the battle of the Ar
gonne.
Col. James Moore, the local
hog magnate, topped the local
hog market Tuesday with 30
head at $10.30. The hogs, far
rowed the middle of last July,
averaged 245 pounds. They
were fed 21-cent corn.
George and Henry Bay op
ened their new meat market
and grocery store in the Scott
building last Thursday.
Joseph Hansen expects to
move to northern California in
about a week. He recently
sold out.
About 2 a. in. Saturday fire
was discovered in the F. O.

the building was saved.

Dr. F. L. Wilson, widely
known Stuart physician and
surgeon, has disposed of his
practice and hospital and will
soon leave Stuart.
Frank Pitzer, format ly of
Omaha, Norfolk and Plainview,
pleaded guilty here this week in
connection with the robbery of
the Frank W’eber liquor store at
Atkinson.

lation around town protesting
the President’s tampering with
the Supreme court. They are
addressed to Nebraska mem
bers of congress.
The O’Neill office of the In- '
tet state Power company has
been redesignated. It is now a
divisional headquarters instead
of a district.
