cock met with the board and the
forenoon was spent discussing
and planning the budget for Holt
County for the coming year.

budget of the Farm Bureau to the
extent of $38.13 per month, sub
ject to reduction if changing con
ditions permit the lowering of
the clerk’s salary.

been remitted to the County
Treasurer as required by law.

p. m. at their office in the court
house at O’Neill.
Motion by Wulf, seconded that
the following bond be approved:

Motion by Stein, seconded by
Wulf, that Norman Gondcringer
be appointed to fill the vacancy
by the resignation of G. E. Miles,
on the Soldiers & Sailers Com
mission.
2:00 p. m. This being the time
designated for the hearing on the
road petition filed by Merrill
Anderson, Mr. Anderson appear
ed before the board in regard to
the petetion. Motion as made by
Sehollmeyer, second by Stein,
that the petetion be approved.

Mr. and Mrs. George Winkler en
tertained their friends to a
charavari treat Friday night at
the Casper Winkler home.
Ice cream and beer were
served. The couple was present
ed with numerous gifts.
Mr. and Mrs. Winkler will re
side on a farm near Tilden.
Bible Group Meets
EMMET — The Bible study
group of the Methodist church
held their regular September
meeting at the home of Mrs.
Sewell Johnson on rnciay. lnere
were 8 members and three visit
ors present.
The business meeting followed
a Bible devotional reading by
the group. The election of offi
cers was postponed until the
October meeting, which will be
at the home of Mrs. Claude
Bates.
Mrs. Geary Enbody gave an
interesting lesson after which a
lunch was served by the hostess
assisted by Mrs. Agnes Gaffney.

Miss Lillian Luben, of Los
Angeles, California, visited Mrs.
June Luben and son, Melvin,
Sunday. She is an aunt of the
late Melvin Luben.
Mrs. Guy Beckwith spent Sat
urday visiting at the Fred Beck
with home.
Mr. and Mrs. George Brainard
and son spent Sunday visiting at
theFloyd Brainard home.
Miss Wauneta Anspach, of
O’Neill, was a Sunday overnight
guest of Mary Lou Conard.
Miss Gladys Schmohr visited
at the Homer Lowery home in
O’Neill Thursday.
Mrs. Mrs. Henry Patterson re
turned Sunday eveping after a
weeek’s visit in North Dakota
and Canada. They visited Mrs
Patterson’s sister and brother-in
law, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Rock
well, at Hannah, N. D., and spent
two days at Winnipeg.
Mrs. Charles Fox and George
Brainard visited Mrs. Alex Mc
Connell Monday.

Clear Golden is leaving for his
home in Cheshire, Conn., today
(Thursday) after spending a
week here visiting relatives.
Mrs. Frank Carter, of Brook
ings, S. D., arrived Tuesday for a
two-week’s visit with her sister,

Mrs. Dora Davis, teacher of the
normal training course at the

Nebraska, seized and possessed
of an undivided one-half interest
in and to Lot 22, Block 42, Rigg’s
Addition to the City of O’Neill,
Holt County, Nebraska.
That petitioner is tne present
owner of said real estate, having
derived title thereto by mesne
conveyances.
The prayer of said petition is
for a determination of the time
of death of J. L. Mack, a deter
mination of his heirs, degree of
kinship, right of descent of the
real property of said deceased
person, and that there is no in
heritance tax, state or federal,
due from said estate or the heirs

Friday to attend the funeral ser
vices for a brother-in-law of
Mr. Smith. They also visited

after spending a month with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto

Hastings, has been a visitor in

Dale Matschullat departed
for Ean Claire, Mich., to spend
a few days in the home of his
brother, Wayne Maschmullat,
going from there to Lincoln to
continue his schooling at the
University of Nebraska.
Mrs. Anna Hurst, of Redfield
la., arrived here Friday evening
to visit her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. N. G. Miller, and other rel

America Cooperation
CHAMBERS — The Valley
Center achievement club met
Friday afternoon at the home of
Mrs. Raymond Beed. Seven
members and one visitor were
present.
The business meeting was con
ducted by the president, Mrs.
Hoffman, who gave a list
of lessons for the new year and
the aims of the club for 1947. The
leaders, Mrs. E. R. Carpenter
and Mrs. Lloyd Gleed, discussed
the subject. “The Americas Co
operate for Victory and Peace.”
Mrs. Kenneth Adams sang “A
Story to Tell to the Nations” The
song, “Follow the Gleam,” was
by Mrs. Adams and Mrs. Glee.
Following the lesson, refresh
ments were served by the com
mittee.

Phyllis Carpenter came up
from Page Friday evening to
spend the weekend at home.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred McCarrol
and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Boyle, of
Portland, Ore., spent Wednesday
night in the Wm. Woods home.
They also visited other Relatives
Mrs. Boyle is a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. McCarrol. The family
formerly resided in -this com
munity.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Farrier
left Sunday for a short vacation
in Georgia.
Mrs. Hylas Farrier and baby
daughter returned Sunday from
the O’Neill hospital. The baby
boy remained for another week.

Thompson is a sister of Mrs. Mil

for their home at Rapid City, S.
D., after several week’s visit
with relatives here.
