SMALL DOSES - Past & Present: ‘Born Unto Trouble’ By ROMAINE SAUNDERS. Special Correspondent From out of the mists of more than 34 centuries the words of a Temanite philoso-> pher haunt the race: “For man is born unto trouble as the sparks fly upward.” Thre€ tossle-ht^ded young sters passed me as I turned down a side street. A half block below a little girl ling ered in front of her home. A childish appeal in soft brown eyes that were about to over flow with tears, and I paused. Here was a little miss, with the qualities of a lady, who had just made the tragic discovery that she had been “born unto trouble as the sparks fly up ward.” The three I had met rudely stopped this little lady as they passed. An expression of the bully instinct, the inde finable depravity that would crush an inoffensive fellow creature, or maybe a bit of fun heedless of inflicting pain, and a sweet little child was made to suffer. Somehow she had learned that rude conduct was not right and expressed her opin ion of those three youngsters in one word: “naughty.” A few kind words and a coin mended the little broken heart Born to trouble. Much of it comes from thoughtless words and acts, leaving wounds where may have been intended a soothing touch. “These clumsy feet, still in the mire, Go crushing blossoms with out end; These hard, well - meaning hand we thrust Among the heartstrings of e friend.” ♦ * * Commander and Mrs. G. H. Wade, accompanied by Dr. and Mrs. O’Connel, all of O’Neill, favored the home of “Doses” with a visit recently, their first venture toward the southwest, and were interested to learn they hadn’t escaped beyond the limits of the empire of Holt. * * * Choke a man and you have him suffocated.
