turned Thursday from Denver,
Colorado, where they had spent
the past ten days visiting relatives

Mrs. Guy Cole and Mrs. John
Conard took Mrs. Esther Harris
and son, Guy, to Sioux City last
Saturday to visit Mrs, Harris’ son,
Ross, wrho was operated on for
appendicitis Saturday. He is
getting along nicely.
Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Hammond
received word from their son,

that he has been transferred from
New Orleans to Camn Barclay
Texas. His wife accompanied

Mrs. John Pruss returned last

Mrs. Oto Reising arrived Friday
from Gary, Indiana, to attend the
funeral of her brother, Lawrence
Phalin, who was buried here Mon

north of the First National bank,
to Leonard Hamilton who is plan
ing on opening a cafe there in

Mr. and Mrs. A1 Pearson and
children, Jimmie and Jane, of
Neligh, spent Sunday here visit
ing at the home of her mother,
Mrs. Jane Harnish.
Thomas Higgins has obtained
an office position with the Union
Pacifiic in Cheyenne, Wyoming,
and left for there Sunday to take
up his new duties.
Seaman 2-c Robert Novratral
arrived Saturday from the U. S.
Naval Training Station at Far
ragut, Idaho, for a visit with his
mother and other relatives here.
Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Devall and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Walter De
vall and Nancy, and Mrs. Orville
Metschke and Mary Ann were
dinner guests at the Elmer Devall
home on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Devall
entertained a group of friends and
neighbors at a card party on Sat
urday evening. A delicious lunch
eon was served and a good time
was reported by all.
Second Lt. Neil Brennan arrived
Tuesday from Fort Knox Ky., on
leave to visit his mother. Mss. F.
M. Brennan and with other rela
tives and friends here.
Mrs. Robert Ford spent Monday
in Norfolk visiting friends.

Miss Ann Mathrie left Wednes
day for Valentine, where she- will
attend the funeral of Mrs. Henry

Word has "been rceived by Mr.

their son. Jack, has been trans
frred from the Naval Traning
Station at Farragut, Idaho, to
Newport, R. I., where he will see
duty on the ship John Hancock,
which was launched recently.
Jack has also ben promoted from
Seaman 2-class to Seaman 1-class.
Word' has been received by Mr.
and Mrs. W. H. Harty that their
son, Lt. Mike E. Harty, has ar
rived safely over seas. He is
somewhere in the South Pacific
Mr. and Mrs. John D. Osen
baugh announce the engagement
and approaching marriage of their
daughter, Ruth Elizabeth, to
Pvt. Edward R. Hilderhoff, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hilderhoff
of Etna, Pa. The wedding will
take place in March. Her fiance
is with the 12th heavy bombard
ment group, stationed at the Lin
coln Air Base.

known and used; new types of
anesthesia were introduced; mos
quito control measures were per
fected to combat maleria; new
uses were found for sulfonamide
drugs; intensive treatment centers
were established for syhilis; new
facts about vitamin B were dis
covered; treatment of infected
wounds and shock was advanced.
