Dear Soldier: — '■■■■.. '■ ' — "... - - -■ — -. You fighting men like to read letters from home accord ing to your officers. Most of us at home realize this and every soldier in the army gets an average of two letters a day—each army unit receiving two to four times the amount of mail dis tributed to civilians in a town of equal population. Uncle Sam realizes it too and he gets your letters to you no matter where you are. The following pictures show how he does this. Maybe they will help to bring you even more glad tidings from home. 'Victory! ^ParadeJ Two soldiers (below) under the supervision of an officer use a locator card system to find cor rect addresses for incorrectly directed mail. Blind Man’s Baseball Has Cables to Guide Players A baseball game played by the blind has only five men on a team —pitcher, catcher and three base men—and the ‘‘ball’* is a three inch metal ring strung on a waist high cable running from the catch er’s box almost to second base, according to Collier’s. When the batter strikes the pitcher ring, the basemen, standing in line behind the pitcher, try to grab and shoot it back to the catcher. For instance, if the ring passes the first baseman and the second baseman catches it and returns it to the plate before the runner reaches second, a one-base hit is made. A home run is scored when all three basemen miss it. The diamond is also enclosed by a cable to guide the players to the bases, which are run clockwise.
