Opening Basketball Game
O’Neill won its first basketball
game of the season by dropping
Ewing 28 to 22. It was Ewing’s
third game of the season. The
Eagle’s led at the end of the first
quarter 4 to 2, but failed to con
nect with their shots in the sec
ond period, and were behind 8 to
11 at the half At the beginning
of the second half O’Neill came
to life, with Calkins finding the
hoop for 9 points. Wolfe, Bur
gess, Bruegman and McKenna
each dumped in a basket and
Yantzi helped out the cause with
a basket and a free throw. O’Neill
outscored Ewing 20 points to 11
in the second half. Calkins, Mc
Kenna and Wolfe were outstand
ing for O’Neill, while Tomjack
carried the lead for Ewing.

The Live and Learn Project
Club held their Xmas party on
Thursday, December 17, at the
home of Mrs. Orville Hitchcock,
with Mrs. Harold Givens assist
ing hostess. A lovely dinner was
served at 1 o’clock.
The lesson on Quick Breads was
given by our leader, Mrs. Ina
Roth telling of the different
ways flour can be used and the
enriched flour which is now avail
able at our grocerss adding viti
mins and minerals. The guess
ing prize was won by Mrs. Harold
Givens.
The next meeting will be with
Mrs. W. J. Wilkinson with Mrs.
John Warner assisting.
Busy Hour Club
The Busy Hour Club met De
cember 17 at the home of Stella
Miller, with nine members and
two visitors present. New officers
were elected for the new year.
The remainder of the afternoon
was spent playing Bingo and ex
changing Christmas gifts. Lunch,
consisting of sandwiches, potato
salad, pickles and coffee, was
served by the hostess. The next
meeting will be held at the home
of Linda Wayman on January 28.
AAA News Notes
President Roosevelt has pro
claimed January 12 as Farm Mo
bilization! Day and has asked that
committeemen gather with De
partment of Agriculture and other
agricultural representatives that
day to discuss ways and means
of insuring maximum production
of vital foods in 1943.
The President said: “I should
like Farm Mobilization Day to be
a symbol of a free America; a
symbol of the might and produc
tivity of our nation; and a symbol
of our unalterable determination
to put to full use our agricultural
resources, as well as or other re
sources, in the achievement of
victory.”
The Holt County USDA War
Board, composed of representa
tives of all Department of Agri
culture agencies, is swinging into
action on the 1943 farm war front
following a district conference
held for county War Board mem
bers of six counties and districts
in this area at Ainsworth on De
cember 21. Preliminary Farm
Mobilization Day plans were dis
cussed at that meeting, along with
plans for complete mobilization
of Department of Agriculture ser
vices for farm families producing
food for war.
OPA has brought all used farm
machinery and equipment selling
for $100 or more under1 price con
trol.
Chairman Truman, of the Spe
cial Senate Investigating Commit
tee, has indicated that a hearing
will be held in January on the na
tional farm machinery shortage.
