EMMET NEWS Mrs. Anna Mullen and family of O’Neill and Private Francis Mullen of Ft. Leavenworth, Kans., were dinner guests at the Joe Winkler home Sunday. They re turned Monday. The salvage drive put on in this precinct last week was only partially successful. About 1600 pounds of paper, enough for car tons for five hundred sixty anti aircraft shells was collected. This was hauled to O’Neill where they have a baler. Something over a ton of usable metal scrap was collected with some scrap rub ber. Rubber and metal was sold for $10 which was turned over to the Red Cross. A few pounds of rags have not been sold. Miss Esther Fox left for Hast ings Thursday, where she will visit for a few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. John Conrad and Mary Lou drove to Wayne, Ne braska, Sunday, to visit the Cob Olsons. They returned home Mon day afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Shaw and Mr. and Mrs. Guy Cole drove , to Lincoln Thursday. They re turned Thursday evening. Miss Dorothy Fox left last week for Washington, D. C., where she has employment. Grant Peacock and Paul New ton were the two Emmet boys who left for the army Monday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Shaw and Grover were guests at the Grover Shaw home Monday eve ning. Larry Shaffer was an over night guest at the Guy Cole home Thursday. The Ladies’ Aid Society met at the home of Mrs. Chas. Abart Wednesday. Mrs. Bert Gaffney, local collec tor for Navy Relief, reports $21 sent in from here. She reports a very good response with only three parties refusing to contri bute. Mrs. Walter Puckett and daugh ter, Lois, and Mrs. AlexMcCon nell, were calling at the Joe Winken home Friday. INMAN NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Chet Youngs en tertained a number of friends at a bridge party at their home on Wednesday night, April 29. Mr. and Mrs. James Coventry won high scores, Karl Keyes, low for the men, and Mrs. Jeff Davis low for the ladies. Mrs. Leo Mossman won the traveling prize. Mrs. Youngs served a lovely lunch at the close of the evening. Members of the Rod and Reel club of Page and Inman, met at the club grounds on Sunday, for a clean-up and repair day, putting the grounds and building in good shape for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Butler and daughter Mary of Neligh were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Butler on Wednesday night, April 29. Butler, left Friday for her home in Independence, Mo. i The Inman Workers Club met at the home of Mrs. James McMahn for their meeting on Tuesday. A covered dish luncheon was serv |ed at noon. The lesson was on bread and rolls. Achievement Day for all club of the county will be held on Friday, May 8, in O’Neil. The Adult Fellowship class of the Methodist church was held in the Aid parlors on Monday night. A social evening was enjoyed, and a businss meeting held, at which time officers were elected, after which lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Hansen and little son of Creighton, were week end visitors in the F. E. Keyes home. The Keyes family were all together on Sunday before Lorin left for his examination for the army on Monday.* Rev. E. B. Maxcy and Elwin Smith went to Lincoln on Sunday, where Mr. Maxcy visited his sons and Mr. Smith, his sister. They returned home Monday evening. Miss Elsie Grueger spent Sun day in Winner, with her sister, 'Mrs. Leonard Jurgensen. Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Moor drove i to Battle Creek and Lindsey Sun day, where they visited friends. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hawkins and Mrs. John Rentz of Lincoln, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. Harkins over the week end. Mrs. Rentz is a sister of Mrs. Harkins. Mrs. A. N.
