executed by Thomas E. McKenzie
to plaintiff, given to secure a note
of $750 and interest, dated June 13
1934, which mortgage was dated
June 13, 1934 and was recorded

gages at page 390 of the real estate
mortgage records of Holt county,
Nebraska, in the office of the Regis
ter of Deeds of Holt countv, Ne
braska, and conveyed the following

An Ordinance providing for a
levy to raise funds by taxation
on property situated within the
corporate limits of the City of
O’Neill, Nebraska, for the fiscal
year beginning the first Tuesday
in May, 1937, and ending on the
first Tuesday in May, 1938.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE
MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
OF O’NEILL, NEBRASKA:
Sec. 1. That the City of O’Neill,
Nebraska, make the following levy
for taxation for the fiscal year
beginning the first Tuesday in
May, 1937, and ending on the first
Tuesday in May, 1938, on the tax
able property within the corporate
limits of the City of O’Neill Ne
braska:
For general purposes 5 mills on
the dollar.
For street lighting, 4 mills on
the dollar.
For refunding bonds, interest
and sinking fund 2V4 mills on the
dollar.
For water bond (fire truck) in
terest and sinking fund % mill on
the dollar.
For intersection paving bonds,
interest and sinking fund 1M: mills
on the dollar.
For warrants and interest there
on in street improvement District
No. 2 within the City of O’Neill,
Nebraska, 1 mill on the dollar.

Mayor John Kersenbrock and
family spent Sunday visiting rela
tives and friends at Osmond.
Mrs. J. F. O'Donnell returned
last Friday from a months visit
with her daughters at Omaha and
Chicago.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur King re
turned last Saturday from their
wedding trip to the Iowa and Minn
esota lakes and have gone to house
keeping in the cottage just east of
the Davidson shop.

E. M. Gallagher entertained
about fifteen friends with a picnic
dinner and boating on the Lake
on his Picadilly ranch W’ednesday
evening. Those present say they
had an enjoyable time.
Miss Margaret Hammond and
Miss Jane Parkins left last Sunday
for Denver, Colo., where they will
both -spend the next month visiting
relatives and enjoying the scenery
in the Mile High city.
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Bergstrom
and daughter, Betty, of New-castle,
Wyo., left this morning for their
hoiAe after spending a week visit
ing at the home of Mr. Bergstrom’s
brother, Deputy Sheriff Bergstrom
and family.
Mrs. Ambrose Rohde entertained
the EOT club at her home Tuesday
evening with bridge and a lunch.
High score was won by Mrs. Flor
ence Compton; second high by Mrs.
J. P. Marron; traveling prize by
Mrs. Larry Cain, and low by Mrs.
F. M. Meyer.
Mr. and Mrs. George Devlin of
Kansas City, were in the city for
a few hours visiting this morning,
while on their way from a visit
with relatives in South Dakota to
their home. Mr. Devlin was a
former resident of this city and met
a few of his old time friends while
in the city.
Malan Nettleman returned Mon
day night from Ft. Smith, Ark.,
with his new Chevrolet bus, and
made his first trip over the route
with the bus Tuesday morning. It
is a fine looking job and the Nor
folk-O’Neill bus line has two as fine
looking busses as there are operat
ing on any short line in the state.
Mr. and Mrs. James Cheesman
and daughter, of Kansas City, Mo.,
stopped in the city for a few hours
this morning on their way home
after a visit with relatives at Win
ner and Gregory, S. D. Mrs.
Cheesman is a niece of T. A.
Quilty. They informed Mr. Quilty
that it rained all the way from
Gregory to O’Neill.
Mrs. John KersenbrOck, Jack and
Duke left Wednesday morning for
Lincoln, where Jack will have his
leg examined by the physician who
had charge of him while he was
confined in the hospital there. Jack
is getting along nicely, but the
physician wishes to examine the
leg. They are expected to return
home Saturday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Hanpnond
and daughters, Harriett and Mary
Jean, returned last evening from
a months visit with relatives and
friends in California. Mr. and Mrs.
Hammond and daughters left here
July 6 and attended the w’edding
of their son and brother, William,
at San Jaun Capistrano, Cal., on
Sunday, July 17. They say they
had a splendid vacation and a good
time while visiting on the coast.
Dr. and Mrs. Sherbahn returned
last Sunday eevning from a two
weeks vacation which they spent at
Lake Okoboji, Iowa. Dr. Sher
bahon says they had a delightful
vacation and that he had unusually
good luck fishing and caught some
dandies. He said that he was going
to prove his statement that he
caught a lot of good ones by show
ing us pictures of the catch to
prove to doubteful ones that he was
not spinning a fish yarn.
Announcement is made by the
Chicago & North Western Railway
that it has completed the refunding
of payroll taxes to its employes,
which began soon after the new
federal pension act went into effect.
About $1,150,000 was refunded. A
total of 80,000 checks, covering re
funds for both 1936 and 1937 have
been sent out. The checks varied
in amounts from $117.37 to one of
2 cents. It is believed that the
North Western is the first of the
large railways to complete its pay
-roll tax refunding.
Mayor John Kersenbrock and F.
J. and William Biglin, furnished
the * members of the Elgin and
O’Neill bands, and the people from
Elgin who accompanied their band
here last Thursday night, with an
ice cream and cake feed after the
concert. When the O’Neill high
school band was in Elgin a little
over a week ago the citizens of that
city entertained the band and the
O’Neill citizens accompanying the
band with ice cream and cake and
these enterprising O’Neill mer
chants returned the favor.
Dorothy L. Humphrey has filed
suit in the district court asking
for a decree of divorce from Thane
L. Humphrey. In her petition she
alleges that they .were married at
Yankton, S. D., on Dec. 3, 1932, and
that they have been since and in
fact all their lives residents of this
county. She alleges cruel and in
human treatment. Two children,
one three and one two years of age
were born to the couple and the
mother asks an absolute divorce
and the custody of the children,
suit money, temporary alimony,
permanent alimony and support
money for the children and such
other relief as the court may deem
just and equitable.
