road from Atkinson to Butte as
State Highway No. 214 and the
road from Stuart to the South
Dakota line through Naper as
No. 217, and
WHEREAS, said roads are
carrying an increasingly heavy
traffic and are badly in need of
construction

Claussen has been discharged as

ly without cause, reason or no
tice, and requests for an ex
planation having been ignored,
NOW. THEREFORE, we ask
that unless some good and suf
ficient reason can be given to
warrant his dismissal he be re
instated and reassigned to this

of her son, Henry Bruhn and family.
Miss Ethel Tasler was called to
her home in Atkinson last Sunday
by the sadden death of her sister,
Mrs. Fern Davis, age 22, who passed
away last Sunday.
E. J. Renwald and his sister-in
law, Mrs. Axvig, who was visiting
the Renwald family here, drove to
Gregory, S. D., last Tuesday, re
turning that evening.
For purposes of clarity and con
venience why shouldn’t we refer to
the congress that sat during the
first New Deal administration as

last Sunday where he attended a
meeting of the managers of the
Golden Rule stores in Nebraska,
held in that city the first of the
week .

J. B. and Ralph Mellor returned
Thursday evening from Omaha,
where they had been attending the
funeral of Louie Storz, member of
a prominent Omaha family, and
who was a life-long friend of1 the
Mellor family.
Mrs. L. A. Richardson of Spear
man, Texas, arrived in the city the
first of the week for a few days
visit with old friends here. Mrs.
Richardson, who will be remem
bered here by her maiden name,
Gladys Arnold, lost her husband
last fall in an aotomobile accident
in Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Dunn, of
Keokuk, Iowa, and Mrs. George
Axvig, of Havre, Mont., arrived in
this city last Saturday for a short
visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
E. J. Renwald. Mr. and Mrs. Dunn
left for home Monday, while Mrs.
Axvig remained for a few days.
Mr. Dunn is a brother and Mrs. Ax
vig a sister of Mrs. Renwald.
Hugh O’Donnell came up from
Omaha last Saturday afternoon,
bringing his sister, Mrs. Stuart
Meech of Chicago, here for a shorq
visit at the home of their parents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. F. O’Donnell. Hugh
returned to Omaha Sunday after
noon while Mrs. Meech remained
here for a week’s visit.

have been placed on business
places on Douglas street during the
past year and more are being added

street a metropolitan appearance

Word has been received here
from the president of the Hastings
business college, that Lester Shoe
make, a graduate of St. Mary’s
academy, O’Neill, in the class of
’35, and a student at the Hastings
school, has completed a full busi
ness course and has accepted a
position as private secretary to the
manager of the Equity Co-opera
tive creamery at Orleans, Nebr.
This is the largest co-operative
creamery in Nebraska, with branch
houses in Crawford, Omaha, Den
ver, Colo., and St. Louis, Mo. Les
ter was the youngest and highest
rated student, which placed him at
the top of the list when the college
received word to fill the position.
