In Daniel 4:17 it is said: “The matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the wards of the holy ones; to the intent that the living may know that the Most High ruleth in the kingdom of men and giveth it to whomsoever He will, and setteth up over it the bas est of men.” _ 1 Holt county citizens have been interested in—maybe originated— national influence with u proposal to consolidate the counties. Now comes a magazine of similar inter ests being grouped under a single state government. To illustrate, Nebraska, The Dekotas, Montana and Wyoming would form a group. Instead of maintaining five separate governments there would bebutone. | The Review of Reviews writer sug ; gests twelve groups with one Unit ed States senator from each and a States senator from each and a lower house of 150 members. The cabinet to be discontinued. The proposal has its merits. There is a growing sentiment that we have too much and too expensive gov ernment. The cost could be re duced one-half by a wise arrange ment of consolidation. I had an invitation, as probably did all others on the route, to at tend a show and dance Tuesday night in a Holt county town, spon sored by “the business people.” The invitation, issued by “Commit tee,” is rather an amusing piece of circus superlatives. It told of some fellow of national prominence com ing out to our hick town to allure the country jays with a clatter of noise designated as music. We’ll get along without the song and dance stuff, but would suggest to “the business people” that if the money put into schemes to entice us in from the country was re flected in lowered prices on their merchandise it would do us more good, and doubtless the chain store and catalogue house business would be materially reduced.
