Bud Newton returned to his
home last week from Laurel, where
he had been shucking corn.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan O’Connell and
family and Joe Luth were Sunday
visitors at the William Luben, jr.,
home.
A group of friends gathered at
the Burge home last Thursday
evening to charivari Mr. and Mrs.
Clyde Burge, who were recently
married.
John Edwin Babl was quite seri
ously hurt in a runaway last week.
Mrs. Guy Cole went down to
Omaha Monday for a few days
visit.
Mr. and Mrs. Homer Lowery
have moved into their new home.
A missionary meeting was held
at the home of Mrs. Agnes Gaffney
Thursday.
Several residents of this village
attended the card party at the
John Pruss home last Sunday even
ing.
MEEK AND VICINITY
Arthur Rouse and sister, Maude,
of O’Neill, motored to Orchard
Sunday for a visit with the Stein
burg family.
The Ladies Aid met with Mrs.
Roy Karr on Thursday with all
members present and several visi
tors. Mrs. Karr served a delicious
lunch. The next meeting will be
with Mrs. Luber.
Guests at the Harry Fox home
on Sunday were: Mr. and Mrs.
Will Kaczor and son, Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Nelson and Paul and Miss
Marjorie Hendrix of Celia, and Mr.
and Mrs. William Hubby.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Robertson
and children were guests at A. L.
Borg’s on Sunday.
Virginia Rausch is staying at the
home of her aunt, Mrs. Harry Fox
this winter.
Mrs. Will Walters, who has been
in the Stuart hospital for some
time, returned to her home Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Young and
family were dinner guests at the
Frank Griffith home on Sunday.
Laverne and Helen Borg and Lois
Jean and Ilene Robertson called
there in the afternoon.
Mrs. E. H. Rouse and Mrs. Or
ville Harrison went to Fremont
last Saturday on account of the
serious illness of their sister, Mrs.
Charles Benton.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Searles
called at A. L. Borg's on Sunday.
Dinner guests at the Virgil Hub
by home on Sunday were: Mr. and
Mrs. Eric Borg and Marvel, Mr.
and Mrs. Howard Rouse and Law
rence, Lloyd and Delbert and Ed
ward Young.
The Broderson family moved to
near Newport last Saturday. Paul
Nelson trucked their household
goods for them.
Mrs. Henifin visited with her
daughter, Mrs. George Hansen on
Sunday.
We understand that down near
Orchard the government is furnish
ing men to shoot jack rabbits, so
they won’t eat the shelter belt
trees recently planted.
Cecil Griffith helped Roy Spind
ler several days this week.
ALPHA CLUB
The Alpha Club held their an
nual Christmas dinner at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Art Auker Wed
nesday evening having thirty
guests and members present.
The long table and the room were
beautifully decorated in the seas
ons colors and the dinner was car
ried as much as possible in the
Club colors of red and white. Each
one found their place and, just be
fore sitting down to dinner with
Miss Hazel McDonald at the piano,
the guests and members sang
“Silent Night.”
Mrs. Maude Auker, our very effi
cient president, was toastmistress
and toasts were given by the fol
lowing:
Mrs. Pearl Widtfeldt, “Xmas
Wish.”
Miss Dorothy Simonson, “Nite
Before Xmas."
Mrs. Ruby Morton, “Xmas in
Heaven.”
They were responded to by Vin
ton Simonson who gave the Club
much praise for the dinner that
the men were fortunate enough to
Vet in on, for as a uaual thing the
only thing they got in on was to
take the ladies to Club on bad
days.
Mrs. George Robertson gave the
Club credit for progress it has
made educationally and the good it
has done for the community in a
social way.
Bridge followed the dinner. San
ta came during the bridge game
and left gifts on the Xmas tree
for all guests and members. These
gifts were given out corresponding
to the number found under their
dinner plate.
On departure the guests declar
ed Mr. and Mrs. Auker very de
lightful host and hostess.
PLEASANT DALE
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fullerton
1 visited relatives in Wyoming last
week.
Stephen Gallagher, of O’Neill,
| visited at the Joe Pongratz home
Monday,
Mr. and Mrs. Verne Beckwith
and little daughter were dinner
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Beck
with last Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Evans of
Iowa have been quite busy repair
ing stones in this vicinity the past
two weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. John Babl were
dinner guests Sunday at the Joe
Pongratz home.
Mrs. L. O. Johnson and daughter
spent Wednesday in O’Neill visit
ing at the Claud Johnson home.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Heeb went to
Wood Lake Thursday and were
guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Mulli
gan. Their daughter, Edna, re
turned home with them Friday.
She had been visiting there the
past three weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Segar visi
ted Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Beckwith
Sunday afternoon.
W. L. Brady shot a great horned
owl Tuesday. It had a wing
spread of 49 inches. He sent it
over for Ralph Beckwith to mount.
Miss Irene Bellar, teacher in dis
trict No. 90, has organized a very
interesting club for her pupils.
The following is an account of the
club by Margaret Babl “We or
ganized a club called Spirits of ’85,
December 2. We took in Good
English, Knighthood of Youth and
Good Citizenship club. Our meet
ing comes to order every Monday
during language time and that is
from 10 o’clock until 2. In our
club we have a good deed and a
bad deed box. We make castles,
in each stone we have something
different to work on. This week
we are working on politeness. If
we have over five complaints we
do not get to color that stone.”
A group of friends and relatives
gathered at the Ed Heeb home
Tuesday evening to help Mr. Heeb
celebrate his birthday. Card play
ing was the amusement for the
evening. Those tpresent were:
Mr. and Mrs. William Murphy and
family; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dobias;
Mr. and Mrs. John Babl and sons;
Clarence and Muriel Murphy; Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Pongrats and son;
David Bellar; John Jennings;
Homer Ernst; Mr. and Mrs. Chas.
Cadwalder and family. Mrs. Heeb
and daughters served a delicious
lunch. All the guests departed at
a late hour wishing Mr. Heeb many
more happy birthdays.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lorenz called
at Mr. and Mrs. Walt Spangler’s
Monday afternoon.
