RESOLUTION
Whereas. Erwin F. Peterson, had
made application for a liquor lic
ense sale by drink, and
Whereas, said application is in
all respects, in legal, and due form,
and notice of hearing thereon has
been given according to law by
publication in The Frontier, and
Whereas, no remonstrances are
interposed, and no objections are
on file or made to the granting of
said application and the issuance
of license thereon, and
Whereas, a majority of the City
Council of O'Neill, Nebraska, fav
or the issuance of a Liquor License,
sale by the drink, to said applicant,
Therefore be it resolved by the
Mayor and City Council of O’Neill,
Nebraska, that a Liquor License
sale by the drink, be granted to
said applicant Erwin F. Peterson,
and that the City Clerk be and he
hereby is directed to issue said
license in manner, form and within
the time prescribed by law. ,
Motion was made by Councilman
Coyne, seconded by Councilman
Yantzie, that the above resolution
be adopted. Roll was called upon
the above motion and the vote
thereon was as follows: Aye—

troduced by Councilman Protivin
sky, and read.
RESOLUTION
A resolution authorizing the City
of O’Neill to file an application to
the United States of America
through the Federal Emergency
Administration of Public Works
for a loan and grant to aid in fin
ancing the construction of Water
Works Project and designating
John Kersenbrock, CW. Porter and
Emmet A. Harmon to furnish such
information as the Government
may requet.
Be it resolved by the City Coun
cil of O’Neill:
Section 1. That John Kersen
brock, Mayor, be and he is auth
orized to execute and file on ap
plication on behalf of the City of
O’Neill to the United States of
America for a loan and grant to
aid in financing the construction
of a Water Works Project.
Section 2. That C. W. Porter
and Emmet A. Harmon are hereby
authorized and directed to furnish
such information as the United
States of America through the
Federal Emergency Administration
of Public Works may reasonably
request in connection with the ap
plication which is herein author
ized to be filed.
Motion was tirade by Councilman
Coyne, seconded by Councilman
Protivinsky, that the above resolu
tion be adopted. Roll was called
upon this motion and the vote
thereon was as. follows: Aye—
Coyne, Uhl, Yantzie, Brennan, Pro

Motion was made by Councilman

Uhl, that an emergency be de
clared in the Water System of the
City of O’Neill. Roll was called
upon this motiqn and the vote
thereon was as follows: Aye—Uhl,
Yantzie, Brennqn; Nay—Coyne,
Protivinsky, Harty. Therefore the
vote being threp for and three
against, the Mayor voted no with
the following statement:
Statement of the Mayor, rela
tive to motion of Councilman
Brennan, declaring an emerg
ency in the water works.
That no plan was proposed by
Councilman Brennan, and no plan
or suggestion was submitted to the
Council, and the water supply be
ing in the same condition as it has
been for the past year. The Mayor
will entertain a., motion declaring
an emergency providing Council
has a definite plan, as to procuring
additional water, and majority of
council favor same.
Motion by Councilman Harty,
seconded by Councilman Coyne,
that the City accept the public li
ability insurance policy No. P62043,
and compensation insurance policy

D. H. Allen, of Emmet, was in
O’Neill Wednesday on a pleasure
trip, taking in the merchant’s trade
and free day.
Miss Viola Kohland, of Tilden,
arrived in the city last Monday for
a short visit with her sister-, Miss
Angie Kohland.
Fred Woods, of Fremont, was
visiting here at the home of Chief
of Police and Mrs. Chester Calk
ins Wednesday.
Bernard McCafferty came down
from Casper, Wyo., the latter part
of last week for a few days visit
with relatives hare.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fernholz,
of Emmet, spent from Saturday to
Tuesday visiting friends and rela
tives at Hartington.
Stafford must be standing pat.
Pat Carr and Pat Ragan were up
from that town Wednesday, return
ing home in the evening.
F. C. Tegler, of Page, viewed the
program here free day and took
home with him vivid memories of
the county seat town at play.
Arthur Keepja,of Hoskins, Nebr.,
and Miss Mabel Carson, of Nor
folk, were granted a marriage lic
ense in county court last Monday.
Clayton, son of Mr. and Mrs.
John Bellar of near Emmet, was
in O’Neill Tuesday evening visiting
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Ott.
The local public high school foot
ball machine last Friday on the
fairgrounds grid, remodeled the
Verdigre eleven'to the tune of 18
to 6.
A. C. Tilley, Nebraska stateengi
neer, arrived here Tuesday even
ing and left Thursday morning..
His visit was in the interest of
business connected with the state
office.
The first meeting of the O’Neill
Women’s Club will be held Wednes
day, Oct. 2, at the club rooms in the
Grattan library, at 3 p. m. Each
member is requested to bring a
guest.
Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Clift and
family, of Long Pine, came down
Wednesday morning to take in the
Free Day in this city and visit with
relatives, returning l^ome that
night.
Paul Beha, whose headquarters
are now in Omaha, was in Norfolk
on business Wednesday and came
up for a short visit with his par
ents on the booster train that
evening.
Erwin F. Peterson opened his
liquor establishment here in the
west half of the old George Bres
sler building, adjoining his beer
parlor last Tuesday evening. The
set-up looks very much like the old
saloon but Peterson says drinks
called for today are much more
complicated, many mixes requiring
considerable study. Pete has a
repetorie of about 300 fancy mixes
and is ready for all comers.
L. G. Gillespie has tendered his
resignation as warehouse storage
inspector for Holt county, the posi
tion to which he was appointed by
the state railway commission about
ten days ago.
George Meals, rancher south of
Atkinson, an O’Neill raised boy,
was down from his ranch Wednes
day giving the old home town the
“once over” and meeting some of
his hundreds of friends.
Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Morris
Johnson and daughter, Mrs. Cora
Kirkpatrick and her children, Ed
ward, Morris and Lurlean, and
grandson, Junior, were at Long
Pine visiting Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Hoar.
Miss Helen Knapp entertained
Miss Reta Knapp at a Treasure
Hunt on Friday, September 20.
The honoree was among the win
ners. After the treasure was
found a luncheon was served by the
hostess.
Hot southwest winds estimated
at around 35 miles an hour pre
vailed here several days this week.
A little rain would be welcome for
fall livestock feed and to hold down
dust that is starting to take wings
a bit at times.
Today an inspector here making
a test of this city’s wells for the
state insurance department inform
ed Mayor Kersenbrock that the
eleven city wells, their water form
ing the source of supplying the
city pump, yielded a total of 299
gallons a minute, indicating O’Neill
after all may not require a new
well.
