All members present except Carson and Stein. Meeting called to order by Chairman. Minutes of previous meeting were read and on motion were approved as read. County Superintendent McClurg appeared before the Board in re gard to the purchase of supplies. Board spent some time in audit ing and approving claims. RESOLUTION WHEREAS, There has been in troduced in the present Legislature by Governor Cochran a measure to increase the Gas tax one cent a gallon, the receipts of which are to be used as a fund for the purpose of carrying on relief in the State of Nebraska, and WHEREAS, this appears to this Board to be the best and most econ omical method of collecting these funds, THEREFORE, We respectfully urge our representatives to sup port the passage of this bill. Motion by Carson, seconded By Steinhauser that County Agent Reece be authorized to rent addi tional office space fot carrying on corn-hog program and other relief work done by this office for a per iod of six months, at a cost to the county of not to exceed $12.50 per month. Motion by Matousek, seconded by Steinhauser that application to Federal Emergency Administra tion for Federal aid on Chamhers Amelia highway be approved, and that Chairman be authorized to sign the application. ORDER Now, on this 25th day of Feb ruary, 1936, there came on for hearing before the Court various petitions for mothers pensions, and by the persons hereinafter named: and the same were duly considered by the Court. The court finds that the following named are entitled to mothers pensions, and a mothers pension is hereby granted to them, and each of them hereinafter named in the amount set opposite her name, for the months of March and April, 1935. Mrs. Walter Jacox, Inman, per month, $16.00; that the amount for Mrs. Jacox is to be paid to Mrs. R. E. Riley, Inman, and by her ex pended for the use of Mrs. Jacox. Mrs. Margaret Posvar, $15.00 per month; Emma Jardee, $15.00 per month: Myrtle I). Coats, $10.00 per mon, that the pensions granted to Mrs. Coats, Mrs. Jardee and Mrs. Posvar be paid to Doretha Montgomery, and be by her ex pended for their benefit. Ida M. Wood, of Ewing. $15.00 per month; Lillian Rose Weller, and Winifred McTaggart, $10.00 each, both payable to Merle Doyle, and by her expended for their use and benefit. Mrs. Edith Black, the sum of $10.00 per month, for the use and benefit of her granddaughter, Ger aldine Black. The mother of Ger aldine Black being living with Mrs. Edith Black; but the best interest of the child, Geraldine Black will be served by having the money paid to the grandmother, Edith Black. To Dora Elshire, $10.00 per month; Margaret Ames, $15.00 per month; Nellie Sparks, $10.00 per month; Elizina Good, $10.00 per month; Martha Coe, $10.00 per month; Nora Peterson, $10.00 per month; Ruth Morgan, $15.00 per month; Kiva Taylor, $10.00 per month. To Clara Graham, $20.00 per month, the same to be paid to Au gust Schutts and by him used for the use and benefit of the said Clara Graham and her children. The Court further finds that Lot tie Calkins is entitled to a Moth ers Pension in the sum of $10.00 per month for the moth of March and April, 1035; ami that the state ments of her application arc true; and she is hereby granted a moth ers pension of $10.00 per month for said months. Now, on this 27th day of Feb ruary, 1935, this cause came on for heat ing on the application of Ruby Wilcox for a renewal of her moth ers pension for the month of March, for the purpose of the purchase of coal, and was submitted to the Court on the application and the evidence. On consideration where of, the Court finds that said appli cant is entitled to a mothers pen sion for the month of March, 1935, in the sum of $10.00 for the purpose of buying coal; and the same is hereby granted to her. It is, therefore, considered by the Court that a mothers pension in the sum of $10.00 for the month of March, 1935, be granted to the said Ruby Wilcox; that the warrant when issued shall be payable to Ezra Cooke, and that he shall pur chase and pay for that amount of coal to be delivered to the said Ruby Wilcox with out expense of delivery, am) that said Cooke shall file with the Clerk of the Court evidence of purchase and payment of said coal, in accordance with this order. Carried. The petition of Paul Falk and also the petition of A. V. Virgin for refund for personal tax paid twice for the year 1933 vves presented and read at this meeting. Motion by Stein, seconded by Steinhauser, that prayer of petition be granted and refunds ordered for the amounts shown. Carried. The petition of Maud H. Clifford, Dana Anderson and Raymond Crossman for refund of tax paid on real estate assessed in school district No. 21, which should have been assessed in district No. 119, were read at this meeting. District Court Filings The Royal Highlanders, a corpor ation, of Lincoln, has filed suit in the district court to foreclose a mortgage for $1,500 given by Reba Woods, et al., on August 2, 1929, on the following described real estate: southwest quarter of sec tion 31, township 30 north of range 13. They allege that the mortgage became due and payable on August 1, 1934, and that it still is unpaid. They ask the court to determine the amount due and if same is not paid within a reason able time that the land be sold. C. L. McBride has filed suit against Martin Helmricks to re cover on a note for §1,000, given on March 1, 1929. The petition al leges that the interest on said note is paid up to March 1, 1931, and that there is now due the sum of §1,282.92 and he asks judgment for that amount and costs of suit. The Occidental Building and Loan Association has brought suit against C. O. Hartford, et al. to foreclose a mortgage for §1,000.00 given on February 26, 1923, on lot 14, block 9, in the original town of Ewing. They allege there is now due and unpaid the sum of §391.93 and if same is not paid within a resaonable time they ask that the property be sold. The Occidental Building & Loan Association has brought suit against Jesse Wertz, et al., to fore close a mortgage for §2,500 given on June 11, 1929, on all of block 17, in Hallack’s second addition to Stuart. They allege there is now due the sum of §1,432.10. They ask the court to determine the amount due and if same is not paid within a reasonable time that the property be sold. Harry W. Whitaker, Jr., as trustee, has brought suit against the county of Holt to collect the sum of $15,487.76, which is the amount the county is indebted to eight state printing concerns for printed, matter furnished by the county since the fall of 1932. The claims were rejected by the county board at their meeting on March 26, and suit was filed in the. district court the same day. The amount owing to the various printing firms according to the petition is as fol lows: Norfolk News, $2,994.08; Klopp-Bartlett Printing Co., Oma ha, $2,526.55; Hammand & Steph ens Co., Fremont, $179.94; Klopp Printing Co., Omaha, $3,186.15; Milburn & Scott Co., Batrice, SI, 097.05; Lincoln School Supply Co., Lincoln, $2,801.10; State Journal Co., Lincoln, $1,303.74; Omaha Printing Company, Omaha, $1,299. 15. Laura Brown has filed suit in the district court asking for a decree of divorce from Benjamin 0. Brown. She alleges in her petition that she was married to the defend ont at Onawa, Iowa, on March 13, 1918. She alleges extreme cruelty in that the defendant abandoned her on or about August 15, 1926, and he has not lived with her since, in fact for the past five years she has not known where he was. She asks for a divorce and such other relief as may be just and equitable. METHODIST CHURCH NOTES A. J. May, Pastor Sunday school 10 a. m. 11 a. m. State House Shorts By Janies R .Lowell The second letting of roadside beautification projects for the year was made last week by the state highway department. These pro jects will cost $6,155, the expense being mainly the cost of trees and shrubs. The department had in tended to include a project between Dakota City and Homer in this letting, but held it up pending further planning. Cows at 25 cents each, a team of horses for $2, and a truck for $1.25 —these were some of the prices or “high bids” made by Farm Holiday 1 members at a recent foreclosure sale near Hemingford, according to ! E. H. Luikart, receiver of the bank which held the mortgage. Mem bers of the association have offered to substitute a bid of $550 for the original $33 bid at the sale, how ever, to satisfy the Box Butte county court, and Luikart has ask ed the court to approve the §550 'settlement. Expenses of the state govern ment during the next biennium arc* 'expected to run $1,000,000 over the amount spent the past two years, as the result of additional requests I for funds made by various state in ! stitutions. Included in the increase will be additional legislative ex pense as the result of investiga tions, et cetra, $500,000 increased appropriation for the state univer sity, and additional buildings for the board of control.
