    New Jersey’s New Elevated Highway_
Here ia a birdsrye view of the new three-mile elevated
highway which connects the Hudson Tunnel from New
York with the three New Jersey cities—Jersey City,
Newark and Kearney. The road is regarded as one
of the greatest engineering accomplishments of iti
kind in tho world. Its completion ends four years oi
intensive labor. It cost SIS,000,000 to build and wai
designed bv Col. H. W. Hudson.
Col. Robins—" Reynolds Rog
Here are two pictures of Colonel Raymond Robins, well-known Chicago
dry leader, und personal friend of President Hoover. The photo on the
left shows the Colonel as he was before his disnppenrance early in Sep
tember while enroute to Washington to confer with the President. At
right, the dry leader is shown as he appeared when he was found mas
querading in denim overalls ns “Reynolds Rogers,” a prospector, near
Asheville, N. C. Colonel Robins, apparently the victim of amnesia, at
first failed to recognize his wife and friends, but now he has recovered
his memory.
After the Horse Had Gone
Yet, it looks like a perfect illustration of the old maxim about locking
the stable door. A locksmith is shown changing the lock on the manu
script case at Columbia University, from which thieves purloined the
original manuscript of Sir Walter Scott's “Guy Mnnnering ” The
treasure was one of the prized possessions of J. Pierpont Morgan.

ony at Hollywood. A filet of flowers
is worn across the back of the hair,
ending over each ear. The coloring
of the floral decoration is chosen to
match the evening gown.

As Death Rushed by Speed Demon
Frank Suess probably wouldn’t give a thin dime for
his chances, nor would anyone else who witnessed this
scene when this photo was made during an auto race
at Los Angeles. The car in which Suess was traveling
at terrific speed is shown in the remarkable “shot” as
it east two wheels, throwing the driver out of the
cockpit. Suess slid for 50 feet across the track in the
path of oncoming cars, but miraculously escaped
injury. A few minutes later he was at the pits look
ing for another car to drive.
Confessed Slaying
Seventeen-year-old James Varecha,
of Chicago, is shown after his ar
rest as he calmly admitted that he
slew Frank II. Jordan in a hold-up,
and half an hour later abducted and
attacked Lillian Henry (inset),
niece of former Police Commis
sioner John Alcock. Besides these
crimes, Varecha, who recently es
-apod from a State epileptic insti
tution, confessed several other
hold-ups and shootings.

Cummings and Miss Morgan were
married in 1931, after a six-weeks’
romance while she was acting in

first he failed to recognize his wife,

Macon Nearing Completion
vhe newest air leviathan-to-be, the dirigible Macon, is shown as it
*ears completion in the giant construction hangar at Akron, 0. It is a
jistarr ship of the United States airship Akron. When the Macon takes
ihe air about five m<$ ths from now, the Navy will possess the two largest
and most modern airships in the world.
A Trunkful of Fun_
But it takes a trunkful of food to satisfy this distinguished exhibit at
the N'aticnal Pet Show in Madison Square Garden, New York. Little
Gloria Ludlow and Rudy Miller are offering coffee and cake to Rosie,
the elephant. But Rosie isn't keen on coffee, peanuts being more soothing
to her palate.
