These scattered fragments are all that remained of
the plane in which Pan Probst, veteran pilot of the
A. E. F., and his pupil, William Fitze, 27, hurtled to
death near the Newark, N. J., airport while making
an instruction flight. It is believed that Fitze “froze"
to the controls and sent the ship into her death dive.
Both victims are from Newark, where a horrified
baseball crowd saw the tragedy.

lived near Bangor, Me., only these

Wet Cars on Dry Block
This lineup of cars and trucks, pictured in front of the Federal Building
in Washington, D. C., is only part of the number seized by prohibition
officers during the year. Many were auctioned off and there were some
good bargains. Bidding was brisk, for a few of the autos once belonged
to prominent hortleggers and were fitted to the king’s taste.

San Francisco, for the poison he
had taken, Rieveley was enabled to
