Time should be allowed for thorough chewing of food so that the stomach won’t be overtaxed. Clean hands and face should be in sisted upon at meal time, as dirty hands are dangerous when carrying food to the mouth. Children shouldn’t be forced to eat when not hungry as it often creates a dislike of those foods. Meal time should be happy without too much excitement before, during or after eating. At least a pint of milk should be drunk by the children every day. If he can’t drink it alone it should be given in the form of cocoa, custard, milk soups, etc. Dried or evaporated milk may be used if it is impossible to get anything else.
