CHRISTY BROS. CIRCUS
SHOWS TO SMALL CROWD
The Christy Bros. Circus was in!
O’Neill last Monday. The attendance
was small both in the afternoon and
evening. The management say that
they have been experiencing poor;
show weather all spring and have
been running at a loss most of the
time. The performances were very
entertaining and were enjoyed by
those present. A number of the em
ployees quit the show here claiming
a shortage of pay checks. Two of the
employees brought a set of Shetland
pony harness up to Sheriff Duffy and
asked him to hold it so that they
could collect their wages. Sheriff
Duffy sent the show people their
harness and the account was settled.
A couple of monkeys disappeared
from a cage of the circus, presum
ably taken by some of the gang who
left the show here. The monkeys
were discovered the following morn
ing by Walt Calkins. The oage was
opened slightly to better inspect the
monkeys when one of them got out
and then the fun began, trying to
catch it; Leon Wyant and Alvin
Harding succeeded in capturing the
monkey at the Ernest Harris resi
dence in the southeastern part of
town when they lured their victim in
to a trap; Sheriff Duffy took charge
of the monkeys and will return them
to the circus.

WILL GO THROUGH O’NEILL
Mr. Light, representing the C. to
C. Highway, was in O’Neill Wednes
day evening and made a talk to a
number of O’Neill business men and
those who were interested in the mar
king of the Canada to Canal highway
which will go from a point in the
northern part of Canada on an al
most straight line south through
O’Neill to the Texas line when it will
angle southwest into ‘Mexico. The
object of the meeting was to acquaint
the people here with the plan of pro-|
motion that is being adopted and sol
iciting the moral support with a view
of raising a little money later to as
sist in the marking of the road.
When the road is completed to
Bartlett the route will be in fairly
good condition the entire distance.
A considerable portion of the dis
tance is hard surfaced at this time.
The O’Neill people should lend
every aid possible to see that the
road is marked through this part of
the state as it will bring considerable
new traffic this way that is now go
ing elsewhere.
