I understand that some book sales men are canvassing the county, giv ing the impression that I am sending them out and that I am asking school boards and teachers to buy their books. Please understand that I will send out no one, at any time, to any teacher or school board without first notifying teachers or school boards personally. If any teacher or school board buys any books or other arti cles from agents, they do so upon their own responsibility. Some of the articles and books sold by these people are very commendable and are a very good thing in the school, others are of very little value. If you •wish to buy anything of this nature and are in doubt as to its value for your purpose, call me before you make the purchase. Do not allow un scrupulous salesmen to talk you into buying what you do not want or need. Signed: Luella A. Although we have only six pupils all grades are represented except second and third. We have been reading the Polly Anna books and have begun Dr. Crane’s Four Minute Essays. The spelling classes are getting a blue star for every perfect spelling lesson; each pupil has a large num ber of stars. When we saw the large flakes of snow falling one day last week, we were reminded of “The First Snow fall” which the fifth and sixth grades have been memorizing. School was dismissed last Friday on iccount of the illness of Miss Folden’s mother. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION SEE L. E. DOWNEY. AGENT WALTER P. CHRYSLER'S I TRAFFIC TALKS I SAFETY AND COURTESY Safety and courtesy are very much one and the same thing. Safety for oneself as well as for bthers is largely the outcome of tlie expression of a courteous thought. In the matter of horn blowing and light dimming plain ordinary good breeding exercised with intel ligence and swiftness is a guarantee for safety. The horn is the voice of the automobile, and the pro jected voice of the driver. Loud, arrogant demands from the horn of the car in back of you, when your inability to move quickly is appar ent, is not only revealing of the personality of the driver, but is Equally discourteous and unsafe. The nervous driver knows that cars are back of him, and will move as quickly as he can, but the noise of a horn upsets and annoys him Sometimes to the point ‘where he cannot move as fast as he might under other circumstances. Noisy blasts from a horn given just at the point of coming opposite another car are dangerous because they are deafening. The sound is caught full under the top of the oncoming car, almost paralysing the hearing of the driver for an instant Light dimming is equally import ant. Flashing ones headlight at an oncoming car as a signal to make him dim is the best way of blinding the driver. His blindness is as great a menace to you as it is to him. The first thought should be to dim your lights so that he can see to pass you, if you are light shy. If he does not dim in answer, the most unintelligent gesture you can make is to flash back your full light barrage. It can succeed in do:ng nothing but blind him, making him a n.jnace to your own car. Cour tesy in this case literally is safety.
