the middle channel of the Niobrara

hearing said matter, and tfive notice
to all parties in writtng so that ev
erybody may have a full and com
plete hearing as to the location of
the boundary lines between said
School District No. 142 of Holt Coun
ty Nebraska and School District
No. 13 of Uolt County, Nebraska.

No. 142, Holt County, Nebraska, and
had several witnesses sworn und ex
amind as to the division lines of
School Districts No. 13 and 142 of
Holt County, Nebraska, in support of
the above petition for rehearing,
1230 p. m.; on motion Board ad
journed until 1:30 p. m.

Holt County Board met pursuant
to adjournment. All members pres
eent. Board culled to order by the
chairman. Moved by L. L. Skidmore

seconded by E. Gibson, that the re
hearing touching the division of the
valuation of the dam and power
plant of the Northern Nebraska
Power Co., for tax purposes between
School Districts numbered 142 and
13, Holt County, Nebraska, as pray
ed for in petition presented by School
District No. 142 be denied and that
the valuation for tax purposes stand
divided between said above 'school
districts as heretofore ordered.
Upon the above motion being put
to vote by the chairman it was de
clared carried and so ordered.
Mrs. Riley appeared before the
Board in the matter of a dam caus
ing flood water on hr land near the
Marley bridge, south of Inman.

Mr. Chairman:
This being the time set for final
action on petition filed by Geo. FI.
Collins and others asking for a
change in County road from Stuart
to Swan Lake and it appearing to the
County Board that such change be
made far the following reasons:
1. That this new route will ac
commodate more citizens and tax
payers.
2. That a good road on the new
route can be more economically built
and maintained.
3. Thut the Board is unable to
obtain right of way to all of old
route without heavy expenses.
4. That the cost of building on
the old route would be very high and
maintenance difficult und costly.
Therefore I move you that said
road be changed as follows, to-wit:
Commencing on th correction line
at the northwest corner of Section
6, Township 28, Range 15 West in
Holt County, Nebraska running then
ce south for a distance of 8 miles to
the northwest corner of Section 16,
Township 27, Range 15, West, Holt
County, thnce running east about lVi
miles along the north side of Section
18 and 17, Twp'. 27, Range 15, Holt

Upon the above motion being put
to vote by the chairman, all mem
bers being present and voting for
the resolution excepting James, who
was present and not voting, resolu
tion was declared carried and so or
dered.
RESOLUTION
Mr. Chairman:
WHEREAS, Federal and State
Highway No. 13 enters the State
from South Dakota to the north of
Spencer and extends on with connec
tions thereto in almost a direct line
throught the state into the state of
Kansas, and when completed will
constitute a direct north and south
road across the state of Nebraska;
AND WHEREAS, said highway
has all been completed except about
twenty-five miles in the northern
part of Wheeler county, and the
southern part of "Holt county;
AND WHEREAS, the County of
Holt, the State of Nebraska, and the
Federal Government have expended
large sums of money on said high
way from about fourteen miles south
of O’Neill directly north to the state
line;
AND WHEREAS, because of the
portion of said road that has not
been completed, the public is not de
riving the use and benefit from said
construction which it should, and
will, when the same is completed;
AND WHEREAS, this is the only
Federal highway in the County’ of
Holt under construction at the pres
ent time wherein the county’s appor
tionment of the state funds may be
matched with the Federal funds;
AND WHEREAS, the completion
of said highway will serve more resi
dent taxpayers of Holt County than
any other project now established,
or under construction;
THEREFORE, Mr. Chairman, I j
move you that it is the will and de- ;
sire of this Honorable Body that all j
moneys available from the State or j
Federal Government apportionable :
to Holt County be lrst applied to the
construction of said Federal and
State Highway No. 13 to the exclu
sion of all other constructions, and
that a copy of this rsolution, certi
fied by the Clerk of this Board, be
forwarded to the Hon. Roy I. Coch
ran, State Engineer.

FACTS ABOUT NEBRASKA
Nebraska has 130 Catholic schools,
below college grade, 120 Lutheran
schools, 8 conducted by the Advent
ist denomination, 2 Methodist, 2
Presbyterian, 2 private religious
I schools, one each by the United Bre
I thren, Congregationalists, Episcopals
| and Friends. Several of these ele
I mentary schools are on Indian re
servations.
The first amendment proposed to
the Nebraska constitution, after the
convention of 1875, was that of wo
man suffrage in 1882 and was de
feated. It was again proposed and
defeated in 1914. Forty individual
amendments to the state constitution
were voted on from 1882 to 1924; 33
were approved and 7 defeated.
Nebraska auto drivers used 197,
058,18(5 gallons of gasoline in 1928
upon which they paid $3,941,164 for
road taxes. Twenty states paid less
tax and 27 states paid more. The
total tax collected in the United
States was 305 million dollars for a
little more than ten billion gallons
of gasoline.
There have been twelve special
sessions of the Nebraska legislature;
two in 1870, two in 1876 and two in
1918. The longest regular sessions
were in 1915 and 1921, each contin
uing 99 days.
