Mother’s Vigil
HERE and there throughout
the land tonight many a
mother will keep faithful vigil
over some sick child. Heavy
eyed and weary she will minis
ter as only a mother can.
At the push of a button elec
tricity will light the tiny face,
heat the water, warm the food,
prepare the medicine. These
are services the value of which
is known only to mothers.

CHARLES DELBERT FERRIS.
Charles Delbert Ferris, oldest son
of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Ferris, was born
August 22, 1901, at Brunswick, Ne
braska, and died at the Sacred Heart
Hospital, Lynch, Nebraska, on No
vember 1, 1928.
From the age of five ’till he was
seventeen, he attended school and
Sunday school in the Patterson school
house. Then his parents moved to
Holt county. He was married to Miss
Ella Jane Clark, December 7, 1926.
He leaves to mourn his loss his
wife, father and mother, one sister
and eight brothers. His sister, Mrs.
Mary L. Schrader, passed aw^ay De
cember 11, 1917, at Neligh; and his
brother, George passed away October

Stuart.
He was well loved by all who knew
him and his friends all grieve at his
death. Our hearts are breaking since
the angels came and took our dear boy
away. He was laid to rest in the
beautiful Woodlawn cemetery at At
kinson, beside his brother, George.
The funeral services were conducted
by Rev. Forest A. Heizer, in the Pres
byterian Church in Atkinson, on No
vember 7, 1928.
4 H CLUB.
Miss Faye Sigman won the honors
of the 4 H club at Amelia given by the
Chicago and Northwestern railroad to
the highest rating club member of
Holt county, which was free trans
portation to the Seventh National
Congress to be held for 4 H club boys
and girls at Chicago, December 27,
1928.
Fourteen active members of the
club took the cooking project the past
summer, which consisted of the pre
paration of fifty meals, using thirty
receipts, baking four loaves of bread,
study of balanced meals, food habits,
correct weight, etc, fulfilling all re
quirements of the club, to be ac
knowleged by the state to receive
charter and seal. The active mem
mers are Faye Sigman, Mary Sig
man, Zelma and Mildred Waldo, Faye
Clemmens, Mary Sigman, Faye Clem
mens, Levine Pierce, Lillian Coolidge,
Clarice White, Martha Fisher, Mary
Minnahan, Ruth and Agnes Mulligan,
Evelyn Smith and Arlene Fryiear.
