LOCAL NEWS.
Frank Heeney, of Emerson, was
visiting in O’Neill Wednesday.
S. F. McNichols suffered an injury
to his shoulder and is carrying his
arm in a sling as a result.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Davidson and Mr.
and Mrs. Pete Hereford drove to Oma
ha Saturday returning Tuesday night.
Mrs. Will Turner of Orchard, Ne
braska, has been visiting at the home
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. W.
Tomlinson, while her husband and
George Hamilton, also of Orchard, are
hunting near Cody, Nebraska.
Miss Marie Brugeman and Miss
Luella Lewis entertained the former’s
mother, Mrs. F. F. Brugeman, of Bris
tow, Nebraska, and Rev. and Mrs. H.
H. Beers and family, at a six o’clock
dinner at the Golden hotel Monday
evening.

children have moved to the T. F.
Birmingham residence in the south
eastern part of the city.
The W. C. T. U. will meet at the
home of Mrs. Arthur Barnes Tuesday
afternoon, November 20th, at 2:30.

J. B. Ryan is having a larger set of
scales installed this week. The new
scales will be the largest in the city
and will have a fifteen ton capacity.
Prof, and Mrs. Guy C.. Miller and (
three sons, Burdette, Kenneth and
Maynard, have moved into the new
Joel Parker residence in the southeast
ern part of the city.
Miss Ruth Scott entertained the H.
O. A. Club at her home Tuesday even
ing'. An enjoyable time was spent in
playing various games and stunts. A
very dainty lunch was served.
Mrs. Francis Brennan and family,1
accompanied by Miss Bernadetta
Brennan, left Wednesday for Georgia
where Captain Brennan is located, j
They will spend the winter there.
Amelia Gaines, Nadine Kilpatrick
and Marjorie Wyant entertained;
their Sunday School class at the Pres
byterian church parlors Tuesday after- j
noon. Mrs. Gaines and Ruth Barnard
assisting them.
B. B. Gribble, of Chambers, is in
O’Neill today on his way home from;
Norfolk, where he has been with his
daughter, Mrs. Dewey Shaffer, of
near Emmet, who has been quite ill
in a Norfolk hospital.
Wm. Crippen returned home from j
Iowa Tuesday evening, and will re
main here this winter. Mr. Crippen
has been doing road work with Hi
Nightengale during the summer; he
says that there has been so much wet
weather that they could not get much
done.
J. P. Gallagher received five cans of
trout from the hatchery at Benkelman,,
Wednesday, and placed them in suit
able water. Mr. Gallagher received
ten cans of bass a short time ago from j
the government hatchery at Crawford,
and turned them over to the Izaak
Walton League to be planted in thei
nearby streams.
Governor A1 Smith of New York,
the defeated candidate for president
on the democrat ticket, spoke over the
radio Tuesday evening. The govern
or ma a very good talk and asked
his supporters to get behind the pr' i
dent elect and assist him in doing the
h >st things possible for the country.

Omaha Friday, returning Sunday

Miss Marguerite Linahan, Omaha,
Nebraska, Governor of the Nebraska
Chapter of International Federation;
of Catholic Alumnae, was a guest over
the week-end at St. Mary’s Academy
—her Alma Mater. The officers of the
Alumnae Association entertained at*
dinner complimentary to Miss Lina-j
han and also at an informal reception
on Sunday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Ennis received a
letter a few days ago from their son,
Emery and family, who have been lo
cated at Perth, Australia, for he patt
six months as production manager of
the General Motors plant at that point,
stating that they have been trails-,
ferred to Melbourn, Australia, as;
1 production manager. They enclose
! some kodak pictures of the children
taken on the Indian ocean.

SEVENTEEN HUNDRED
TURKEYS SELL FOR
MORE THAN $7,000
Armour Creameries the first of the
week purchased 1700 turkeys from
Emil Bartax, of near Deloit, and have
received them at their storage plant
in this city. The checks given in pay-!
ment total more than $7,000.00.
Mr. Bartax has been raising large
flocks of turkeys near Deloit for a
number of years and has developed ^
the industry into a very profitable
business. He has disposed of only a
part of his turkey crop; he expects to,
have another large shipment ready for
market before Christmas.
Mr. Bartax says that if he had
known that Armour Creameries main
tained a killing and packing plant in
O'Neill he would have sold his tur
1 oys here last year; he thinks the
i home market should be encouraged.

The Socialist vote in the county
ranged form 10 votes for their presi
dential candidate to 34 votes on some
of the candidates on the state ticket.
