(Spencer Advocate.) Ann Dennis was born May 2, 1899, at New Rochelle, New York, and died at 11:05 a. m. Sunday, May 17th, at Omaha, Nebraska. Her early education was received the Spencer public school. The last five years at St. Mary’s Academy in O’Neill where she specialized in music and art, and from which school she was a graduate. She resided in Spencer until a few years ago when the family moved to Omaha, after which she was employed as secretary to W. W. Hoagland. She held this position until her health failing, she went to Colorado Springs, Colo., where she remained for some two years at Glockner Sanitorium in an effort to regain her strength For the past year she had been at home, gradually growing weaker until death claimed her. , A girl of considerable personal charm, she leaves countless friends to mourn her death. Besides her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Dennis, she leaves one broth er, John; three sisters, Mary, Julia and Agnes. Funeral services were conducted at St. Mary’s church Wednesday, May 20th, at ten o’clock a. m. by Rev. Fr. O’Flynn of Lynch. The pall-bearers were six cousins of the deceased: Jno. Langan, Martin London, Dave Langon, Pat Langan, Rich London, John London. The Requiem Mass was sung by Misses Marie Giffin, Cecilia and Hel en Kloke, first cousins of Miss Den njs. Interment was made at St. Mary’s cemetery beside her brother. Jim. * ___________ NOTES FROM THE NORTHEAST. Mrs. E. E. Cole, of Star, visited at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. F. Powell of Opportunity, last week re turning home Saturday. Carl Grant, of Dorsey, Nebraska, representing the Bankers Life Com pany of Des Moines, Iowa, was writ ing insurance in this part of the county Saturday. Charley Cole and Alex Wertz trans acted business in O’Neill and Op portunity Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hunter and Mr. and Mrs. Alex Wertz, members of Edwin Castle No. 174, Royal High lands drove to Tilden, Nebraska, May 9th, and attended the District Con vention, electing delegates to the con vention to be held at Denver, Colo rado. F. J. Sharp, chief secretary, of Lincoln, was chairman of the Til den convention. Mrs. Darr, wife of the late Eddie Darr, of Denver, visited in this vi cinity Saturday and Sunday, leaving for Keokuk City, Iowa, Monday, where she has relatives and expects to make her future home. Miss Amelia Jensen, who has been at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Cole for sometime, drove to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Jenson, of Knox county, Saturday. Miss Jensen expects to go to St. Louis, Missouri, in the near future, to train as a nurse in a hospital for the crippled. We are informed by some of the farmers that cut worms are seriously damaging the planted corn which will necessitate replanting. It appears the fields wher the soil is sandy and light they are more .destructive. Freezing temperatures, frost and lack of moisture has seriously damaged first crop alfalfa, in this part of the county, especially where the alfalfa is not a good stand. Corn planting is general and this week will complete the work unless cut worms will necessitate replanting. Acreage above normal. Some farm ers will have an acreage of 250 acres, others from 75 to 150. Miss Morna Wertz visited at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex R. Wertz, of Star, for a few days last week.
