Percie Grass and family were O’Neill visitors last Thursday. A number of Pleasant Valley peofple attended Page Chautauqua this week. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Sarchett spent the latter part of last week at the C. A. Grass home. Harlen Van Conett spent last Sun day with Edward Grass. Miss Lura Grass returned home last Thursday. She has been attending the St. Mary’s Academy in O’fieill. Mrs. Stanley Soukup and son, Fran cis, and Mrs. Clyde Streeter, were O’Neill visitors last Tuesday. Mr. Clark has been repairing wind mills in Pleasant Valley this week. Some of the farmers are replanting their corn, the cutworms having taken the first planting. Miss Margueritte Murray, of Miles City, Montana, spent a few days of last week with relatives in and around Pleasant Valley. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Murray and daughter, Miss Winifired, of O'Neill, spent Saturday at the Clyde Streeter home. A heavy rain fell over Pleasant Val ley last Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. Will Anderson were in O’Neill on business last Saturday. PLEASANT VALLEY CHURCH NOTES We had a well attended children’s program. 119 were present. Because of threatening weather our attendance would been much larger. The church was well decorated with flowers, both wild and tame. Miss Mae McGowan contributed a beautiful boquet of tame roses and other flowers. • The children did well. The church orchestra did fine. Sunday school next Sunday at 2 p. m. Service at 3 p. m. All invited. SCHULZ-LIERMANN. (Chambers Sun, June 14.) A very pretty home wedding was solemnized Sunday'afternoon June 10, at 5 o’clock p. m. when Rev. Schleef united in marriage. Mr. Gustave Sch ulz of St. Edwards and Miss Eleanor Liermann, of Amelia, at the home of the bride’s mother, Mrs. Hukla Lier mann. Both were attired in a suit of blue. The bridesmaid was Miss May Lier mann and the best man was Thomas Farwell. Mrs. Schleef flayed the wedding march. A sumptuous wed ding dinner was served immediately after the close of the ceremony. On the following day the newly married couple left by auto route for their future home at St. Edwards where Mr. Schulz is in business. The following guests were present: Chas. Lierman and family; Herman Lier man and family; John Walters and family; Frank Pierce and family and Rev. Schleef and family. PIONEER HOMESTEADER DIES AT HOME NEAR ATKINSON (Atkinson Graphic, June 15.) George Ries died at his home east of Atkinson on June 9, after an illness lasting over a year. Mr. Ries was born in Limberg, Ger. many, sixty-nine years ago. He emi grated to America when he was twenty-six years old, coming to Sew ard County, Nebraska. Later, over forty-five years ago, he came to At kinson and took up a homestead six miles northeast of town. He was united in marriage to Em ma Christenson on August 23, 1895. He is survived by his wife, two brothers, John of Limberg, Germany, and Adam of Atkinson, and eight children, Ralph, Margaret, Marie, Henrietta, Walter, George, Edward and Roy, all of whom wei-e present during his illness except his brother John. The deceased was one of tfce pioneer settlers, who came to this country and by his labor and never failing industry made for himself and his family a home in all that the word implies. During the last days of his illness he was comforted by the rites of his church, and sustained by the Christian faith. Monday, June 11, at St. Joseph’s church a Requiem Mass, amid rela tives and friends was held. The body was laid to rest in St. Joseph’s ceme tery. WATSON-CORBIT. (Atkinson graphic.) Mrs. Ruth A. Watson announces the marriage of her daughter, Ruth M. to Elmer L. Corbit, June the 9th, 1923, at Wayne, Nebraska. Miss Watson was a teacher in the public schools at Wynot the past year, and as students together at Wayne their acquaintance was made. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Corbit, of Atkinson, and until a couple of years ago made his home here with his parents. On leav ing Atkinson he took a year’s theo logical course at Ashbury College, Wilmore, Kentucky. He then attended Wayne State Normal and later was given a charge and became the pastor of the M. E. churches at Magnet, Cedar County, and McLean, Pierce County, Nebraska. Rev. and Mrs. Corbit will make their home in Magnet until September the first, after which time they will occupy the parsonage at McLean.
