    “Tribune Better Corn Contest”
“The Golden Ea,r”
In Nature’s Golden Corn Lies the Wealth of the Northwest
Open to Everyone in Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska
\
The Purpose of the Contest
The Tribune realizing that the prosperity of the Middlewest and in turn
the prosperity of the entire nation largely depends upon our middle-west,
inaugurates this contest in the hope that it may, at lea^t in some small
measure, prove helpful to all.
Corn and Hogs (for hogs are but “corn on the hoof”) are of such out
standing importance to the people of this territory and the people of Sioux
City, “The Business Capital of the Northwest,” that all should be interested
in the raising of “Better Corn.”
The interests of all are mutual and we either prosper or suffer together.
Let’s get together and all of us try to do “BETTER.”
How To Win The Prizes
First read on this page the “DETAILS OF THE CONTEST” — “THE
JUDGING OF THE CONTEST” and the section headed “FOR MORE
PARTICULARS” — or better still, Cut Them Out and Save Them.

Helpful Articles
All of us know that the way to raise “BET
TER CORN” , is to start with the selection of
the seed corn, andi then to watch each stage of
development.
To aid in doing this a series of articles will
appear each Saturday in The Tribune on the
farm page, known as “FARM LIFE WHERE
THE TALL CORN GROWS.”
The first of these articles will start next Sat
urday. It will tell about selecting your seed
20 rn
As the crop advances there will be articles
covering each particular stage.
These articles will be practical The writers
of them will be corn authorities in our agri
cultural colleges and “dirt farmers” of rec
ognized standing as com growers.
These should prove interesting, helpful and
profitable.
Watch The Tribune’s Saturday “FARM
PAGE.”
The Grand “Corn Show”
At the Auditorium, day and evening, Decem
ber 5th, when the judging and announcing of
winners will be made, there will be an exhibit
of “CORN” that will rival any National Corn
Show—because when it comes to raising
“CORN” we cannot be beat.
Let every “CORN” grower borne in that day;
meet each other; talk “CORN” together; and
ALL will benefit.
Every Sioux Cityan invites you; remember,
Sioux City is “THE BUSINESS CAPITAL OF
THE NORTHWEST’—and its people realize
and appreciate that its welfare and growth is
mainly dependent upon you.
Let’s all enter whole heartedly into The “Trib
une Better Corn Contest,” so that not only will
all prosper MORE through raising “BETTER
CORN” but also gain a BETTER UNDER
STANDING of our own and our neighbor's
problems and mutually and helpfully work to
gether to “BUILD BETTER” the wonderful
territory Nature has bestowed upon us.
Details of the Contest
Every paid subscriber to The Tribune is eli
gible and the only requirement is thfet he ad
vise The Tribune of his intention to enter the
contest not later than December 2; however,
why not do it NOW. This may be done by the

It is not the thought of The Tribune to make
this contest too technical,—every grower

As the middle west raises “BETTER CORN,”
so do all of us, and the nation at large, prosper.
Let’s try! If not a reader order Tribune to
day.

as a famous corn judge, including judging at
the National Corn Show, and is holder of the

He is enthusiastic over “THE TRIBUNE BET
TER CORN CONTEST” and is freely giving
his time and knowledge. Mr. Sundberg will
also select two well known corn authorities

and Nebraska to make up the board of judges.”
All judging will be done by
comparison only.
The Tribune has secured the Auditorium for
December 5 at which place and time all judging
