LOCAL MATTERS. Mrs. R. E. Gallagher was a visitor to Ewing last Tuesday. Mr®. W. F. Finley entertained at dinner and cards last Monday evening. Mrs. I’. J. O’Donnell entertained at cards Tuesday evening of last week. Mrs. R. R. Morrison entertained at a dinner party and cards last Monday evening. Will Biglin was host at cards and a smoker to a few of his gentleman friends Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. George Miles left Wednesday for Harlan, Iowa, to spend Thanksgiving with relatives. R. L. Drayton of Page, was in the city Tuesday, being called as a wit ness in a case in the district court. Mrs. Etta Hall of Plair.view, ar rived in in the city the first of the week for a few days visit with rela tives. Sheriff Joe Leonard of Rock county, came down from Bassett Saturday morning on business, returning home that evening. Paul L. Henry came up Tuesday night from Fremont to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Henry, for a few days. Mrs. J. P. Golden and Miss Lillian Golden entertained at dinner and cards last Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Golden. The Misses Ireneia and Marie Big lin returned last Sunday evening from a few days visit with relatives and friends in Sioux City. Mrs. Elizabeth Willcox and Miss Helen Willcox left Sunday morning for a Thanksgiving visit with rela tives at Omaha and in Iowa. Mrs. D. H. Cronin entertained at a dinner party and cards at her home last Tuesday evening, being a birth day party for Miss Beatrice. John Nolan went up to Bassett last Thursday night to look after his oil interests and to visit a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Nolan. John Dorr, of Iowa township, one of the republican war horses of east ern Holt, was an O’Neill visitor last Tuesday and made this office a short call. Leslie V. Stevens of Page and Miss Gertrude A. Hamilton of Venus, were granted a marriage license in county court by County Judge Malone last Monday. Miss Florence Brogan, who is one of the teachers in the O’Neill public schools, left this afternoon for Tllden, where she will spend the Thanksgiving holidays with relatives. Miss Glennie Bacon, who is one of the instructors in the O’Neill public schools, will leave in the morning for Randolph, where she will spend Thanksgiving with relatives. - W. H. Decker, formerly a resident of Page, but now of Lincoln, arrived in the city the first of the week, hav ing come up to look after a law suit that he has pending in the district court. Mrs. Webb Kellogg entertained a dinner party of twenty-eight last Tuesday evening. The attorneys and jurors in district court will spend Thanksgiving in court as Judge Dickson decided to hold court Thanksgiving day. Miss Marcie Ziemer returned Sat urday evening from a several weeks visit with her sister, at Marshall, Minn. Mur. J. A. Ziemer, her mother, who accompanied her to Minnesota, will remain until Christmas. Mrs. Joseph Strickland and son Paul, of Denver, Colo., arrived tlte first of the week for a Thanksgiving visit with Mrs. Strickland’s parents, 9 Mr. and Mrs. James Pace, and her sister, Mrs. John L. Quig. Sol Gallentine, for many years a resident of this county, but who left here a year ago, -was in the city the first of the week. He has been living in Oregon the past year and says that he is in love with that country. Walter Barrett arrived home last Tuesday evening to spend Thanks giving at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Barrett south of this city. For the past year Walter has been at Bakerfield, California. F. O. Hammerburg, former member of the county board, waj down from Atkinson last Monday attending court. At the last election Frank was elected Police Judge for the city of Atkinson, a position he will frill with justice to all. Jimmie Boyd, the Black Hills bear cat, who will contest with Kid Sch laifer for eight rounds at the Ameri can Legion athletic carnival Thurs day night, arrived Tuesday night. Boyd is a classy looking fighter and appears to be in excellent condition. J. C. Murphy came down from Gillette, Wyoming, last Tuesday for a few days visit here and to accom pany Mrs. Murphy and the babies, who have been visiting here for several weeks, on their trip home. They ex pect to return to their Wyoming home Friday evening. Dr. J. M. Caldwell, formerly owner of a large ranch north of this city upon which he resided for several years, has accepted a call as pastor of the Presbyterian church at Valentine, where he is now located. For the past ten years Dr. Caldwell has been a resident of California. Myer Richard returned last Thurs day evening from a two weeks pur chasing trip to the New York mar kets. “Mike” says that business is very dead in New York and on ac count of the tightness of the money market he was enabled to purchase goods at wonderful reductions over the prices quoted a couple of months ago and he will give his patrons in this section the benefit of his good buying. , Oil promoters can go ahead with drilling in northern Holt county any time now, Charles Bigler having leas ed to them the oil privileges on his ranch in that section. With the Big ler land the promoters now claim 15, 000 acres under lease in the district. Mr. Bigler heretofore had refused to lease the oil privilege on his place, disliking to have the scenery clutter ed up with old derricks or the farm ing land spoiled by oil waste.
