MORE LOCAL MATTERS.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed. F. Gallagher re
turned Friday afternoon from their
winter’s sojourn in Los Angeles and
at other California resorts. The west
coast is strictly anti-administration,
says Mr. Gallagher, and while away he
only encountered one democrat and
that one declared his intention of not
voting for Wilson.
E. W. Braasch, who lived nine miles
northeast of this city for several years
but who sold out last fall and moved
to Antelonpe county three weeks ago,
was an O’Neill visitor Wednesday. Mr.
Braasch says that he likes his new
home fine and is delighted with the
people he has met there. He lives
three miles north of Copenhagen.
George Parham is an oil magnate.
Although he owns no oil stock he is
one-eighth owner of a fifty barrel
gusher that came in a week ago Sun
day. The well is located on a half
section Mr. Parham owns near Iola,
Kansas, and of which he leased the oil
rights for an eighth royalty. The
company is sinking a number of wells
on the land.
The O’Neill basket ball team is
growing stiff and rusty. The team
has beaten everything in Holt county
and in northeast Nebraska and now
it cannot get a game, because all other
teams seem to be afraid. The team
accordingly has decided to issue a chal
lenge to the world at large. Any team
that thinks it knows the game can get
a match by communicating with Ted
Cooper.
George Murray came down from his
South Dakota ranch last week for a
short visit with home folks. Satur
day evening about twenty-five of his
friends gathered at the home of his
parents and treated him to a genuine
old time surprise party. About mid
night Mrs. Murray served a delicious
lunch and at a late hour all departed
for their homes hoping that they would
soon again have the opportunity of
partaking of the Murray hospitality.
