Must Cet Out!
We just got notice to get out of this building May 1st and we are making good prices to get rid of the
goods. There is no building big enough to hold this stock and we have to cut it down. Anything you can
use, it will pay you to try us first. We want to cut the stock down low enough to get into the Harness Shop.
It’s easier to move money than merchandise.
All those working for the Ford car
want to get up and dust now because it
will soon be over. One point now is worth

gone. If the young men do not wake up

Anyone who gets $12.00 per day from the
farmers can afford to do something. Any
business man in O’Neill would be glad to
do the things for nothing which the agent
gets $3600.00 for doing.

The agent says himself the farmers are
capable of running their own affairs. So
why should we pay him $3600. 3600 Dollars
is a lot of money for to charge for writing
letters for the farmers. I will do what he
is donig for the farmers free of charge. The
state pays him $1200 and that’s all ht is
supposed to get. The county treasurer only
gets $2000 and it costs him pretty near that
much to pay his bonds. Anytime any far
mer or anyone else has something to sell
they can run their exchanges in my ads free
of charge. Any time they want any letters
written or vaccine ordered I will do it for
them for nothing. There are only 300 work
ing days in the year and providing he
worked half that time for tne farmers it
would figure a salary of $24.00 per day. If
the farmers gave me $3600 a year I will
earn it. I would go up on the reservation
and steal fat cattle for them for $3600 a
year. I would not print what I would do
for a farmer for $3600 a year. 1 would
shoot Lloyd George for 36c. I don’t think
the agent has any kick coming. He has
been paid ten times over for what he done
for the farmers. He calls visiting farmers
homes work. I suppose it is hard work to
go out and visit a farmer and eat chicken
and pies and cakes and butter, eggs, tur
keys, fresh pork with dumplings, drinn nice
fresh milk, eat big slices of home made
bread. This is sure hard work. I wish I
had a job like that. I wouldn’t want any
salary at all. All I would want is invita
tions.

How much did it cost per day for the
county and state to keep the agent here
last year?
There are 365 days in the year.
Subtract 72 holidays and 52 Sundays and
say only half the time was spent on his
house, would leave maybe 150 days he
worked. Divide $3600 by 150 working days
shows he was drawing $24.00 per day for
eating the farmers chickens.
Last year wher\ I wanted to sell my store
to the Farmers Union, he printed a piece in
the paper. He says: The farmers should
not go into the merchantile business as the
goods get old and the turnover is slow and
there is really no money to be made. That
what the farmers need is an Elevator. I
suppose if I would give him a good size tip
we might have changed hi» views. But
when he found out there was no tips coming
——mmmmmmmmmmm——■—' u ■ n
he fought it out and I did not sell the store.
But the value of the merchandise has in
creased enough to buy an elevator.
All week long I have been getting letters
from all over the state from poor devils ’
who have been cruhsed out of business by
the same kind of stuff they are now trying
to put over in O’Neill. I know every
farmer in Holt County and outside of one
or two there is none who wants to see this
kind of work. Every man who knows any
thing knows that every one else must work
for a living and that we all can’t be
farmers. Everyman can not make a living
on the farm. It takes a farmer to farm
and a Jeweler to fix watches.
When you ask the clerks for merchandise
and they tell you we are out, ask for me.
It s easier for a clerk to tell you out than
it is to go and get it for you.
Charlie Stout says he can get you vaccine
for five per cent less than the Government
price in ton lots.

The men who fought in France—fought
bullets—they got $360 a year. The men
in this country who chase bugs get ten
times that much.
The agent must have done something Big
for Bill Hayes to get $3600 a year. Every
body knows- Bill won’t pay Democrats for
work they done on the roads two years ago.

One reason so many men pull out of the
unions and others refuse to join is because
they do not treat them all alike. Just for
fun Tuesday we called up Emmet and
Orchard and O’Neill Farmer’s Union Ele
vators. Here are the prices paid:
Orchard Emmet O’Neill
Rye . $1.70 $1.69 $1.45

I leave the comparison to yourselves. I
have nothing against the elevator or the
elevator men. All I ever said was that in
other places they were burning elevators
for the insurance and that the Old Atlas
elevator was offered for $200 and no one
wanted it. Instead of making Nye Schneider
pay up they are paying down. And
I leave it to you farmers who is getting the
difference in prices. Unions who claim the
hog buyers rob them and Unions who claim
the store keepers rob them seem to be
about as good at it as any.
Outside of the soldiers, the dollar a year
men dope more than the high salaried
officials for us and the government.
