Prospects for profitable pork pro duction were never brighter than at pesent, with the demand large, the supply limited, and the Food Admin istration behind the movement. A campaign has been started in Ne braska with the purpose of effecting an increase of 20 per cent in the number of hogs for next year. The Food Administration realizes that no farmer feels justified, or is justified in enlarging one side of his business without some assurance that such a change will be profitable. Govern ment guarantees give the hog raiser the best prospects for hog profits that he has yet known. Fats for food and fats for explosives are of decided im portance to a fighting nation and there is no doubt but that Nebraska hog men, once acquainted with the situation, will seize the opportunity to be of service to their country and to their pocketbook at the same time by breeding one more sow for every five that farrowed last spring. The Agri cultural Extension Service of the State University as well as the field workers engaged in the campaign will give all assistance possible to farmers in car rying out the project. If an automobile is used occasion ally during the winter, it will not be necessary to remove the tires, but they should be partially deflated, ac cording to the department of agricult ural engineering of the University of Nebraska. The wheels should be sup ported by jacks. Tires should not be left standing on greasy or wet floors. Grease is in jurious to the rubber and moisture to the fabric. If the car is stored for the winter, it should be jacked up and the tires re moved. If there are any cuts in the rubber they 4liould be repaired in order that moisture may not enter the fabric. During the winter, after the cas ings have been wrapped in paper or burlap to keep them as dry as possible and to protect them from the sunlight, they should be placed in a dry room with a temperature ranging between 40 and 65 degrees. Inner tubes should be removed and either be deflated or rolled loosely with a slight air pres sure left in them. The tubes should then be given the same care as the casings. ————— ' Quite So. “I want a dollar’s worth for every dollar I spend.” “Your theory is good, no doubt, but you must spend a lot of time skirmish ing around just now.” SAL-TONIK Disease Preventive, Worm Destroyer, Tonic and Conditioner For All Farm Animals ■' ■■ — SAL-TONIK is composed o( condi ments (salt and Red Pepper) as abase, which are mixed with herbs, minerals and worm destroying drugs necessary (or all farm animals.
