Farmers Meet In Convention.
The Farmers Union of Holt county
met in their regular quarterly con
vention in Atkinson, June 19, 1917.
The women served dinner to the
visiting delegates and Atkinson local.
There were fifty-five delegates from
the other locals.
The diner, abundant and excellent,
was served in the Miller theatre.
At 2 p. m. the convention was called
to order by the county chairman, B.
F. Kissinger. It convened in the I. 0.
O. F. hall. Of the fifteen locals in the
county eight sent delegates. The time
was spent in exchange of ideas and
plans of co-operation. On the whole
it was a very pleasant and profitable
afternoon.
The last “chunk” of business was
the planning for county farmers pic
nic to be held in the Pat Smith grove
near Sam Hickman’s, five miles east
of Atkinson and five miles west of
Emmet.
All interested in a good time are in
vited to fill their baskets and come,
August 2, 1917. There will be speak
ing and games. Ice cream and candy
stands on the grounds.
A vote of thanks was tendered the
people of Atkinson for the royal way
m which she entertained her guests.
Don’t forget the picnic.

TWICE PROVEN.
If you suffer backache, sleepless
nights, tired, dull days and distressing
urinary disorders, don’t experiment.
Read this twice-told testimony. It’s
O’Neill evidence—doubly proven.
H. W. Ritts, carpenter, O’Neill,
says: “I had suffered for two years
from weakness of my back. I was in
such a bad way that every time I
stooped, sharp twinges darted through
my back. A dead, aching pain
through the small of my back
bothered me day and night. Lots of
times when I sat down, it would only
be with great effort that I could get
up again. I took only two boxes of
Doan's Kidney Pills, procured from
Gilligan & Stout's Drug Store, and
they cured me. That cure was made
five years ago and I have never had
any trouble with my back since.”
(Statement given August 25, 1909.)
The Test of Time.
On June 20, 1916, Mr. Ritts said:
”1 recommend Doan’s Kidney Pills
even more highly than ever, because
the cure they gave me has been last
ing. I feel that I oWe my good health
to having used this medicine.”

Notice has been received by Gov
ernor Neville that the draft will start
July 7.
That the draft will be conducted in

that no names will be used, but the
assignment will be made by number,
the serial numbers being sent to
Washington and the selection made by
drawing the numbers on the lottery
plan.
No one will know who has been
drawn until the drawn numbers have
been returned to the examination
boards and comparison made with the
registration cards.
These numbers will be sent to the
different registration boards and if
exemption is claimed it will be the
duty of the boards to investigate and
make the examinations.
No class exemptions will be made.
An Old, Old Story.
He told her tales of splendor and of
love,
Of fairylands that rivaled those above,
Wherein he’d keep the flower of his
youth
To dwell with him who spoke no thing
but truth;
He promised her she’d never want
for food,
That never would he change his
smiling mood,
He told her that the world would
cease to spin—
Unless she let him kiss her once
again.
She told him that she simply could
not live,
Unless he’d comb the earth for her
and give
His wife the treasured things of sea .
and earth—
Then hang his heart and hand above
the hearth;
She leaned her head and heard his
racing heart,
She matched his eyes and said no
thing could part
The fairest pair that ever graced 1
a night <
Aglow with not a thing but Cupid’s
light.
He told her that he’d crack her on
the head,
Unless she did her chores and got to
