It is probable that the principles of advertising, that is the economic reasons for it, are understood by farmers less than by any other class of people, notwithstanding the fact that the everage farmer is a pretty well read and educated man. It is therefore a good idea that the Nebraska P'armer has in printing such editorials as the following, to teach the farmer that he is just as much in terested in the economic distribution of merchandise as the retailer: “How advertising reduces the cost of selling is well illustrated by the records of Mr. E. B. Moon, a general merchant of Lakeville, Ind., whose trade is nearly all with farmers. A few years ago the store spent nothing for advertising. Then the sales amounted to $15,000 a year and the cost of operating the store was 22 per cent of the sales. Last year the store spent $1,500 for advertising and sold $60,000 worth of goods. Instead of the cost of operating being increased, PAID ADVERTISING Paid announcements will ap pear under this head. If you have anything to sell or wish to buy tell the people of it in this column.
