Co.—Cattle receipts are quite liberal this week but the supply of finished beeves is only moderate and they are holding steady. Others are slow and lower, however. There is an uneven trade in cow stock, grassy kinds unless very fat are sell ing lower. Good feeders continue strong with a keen demand for all of the limited offerings, but common grades of both stockers and feeders are very slow sale. We quote: Good to choice cornfed beeves $8.50 to $10.10, common kinds down to $7.50. Good to choice cows and heifers $7 to $8.75, fair to good $6 to $6.90, canners and cutters $3.75 to $5.90. Veal calves $8 to $9.75. Bulls, stags, etc., $5.50 to $7.50. Good to choice feeders $6.85 to $8.35, com mon grades down to $5.50. Stock calves $6 to $7.50. Pacific coast range beef $8 to $9. Hog receipts are coming liberal again this week with the light kinds holding about steady, heavy and com mon kinds sharply lower. The run of lambs is becoming heavy with prices nearly $2 under the high sheep time of two or three weeks ago. Sheep have not shown much de cline and are in light supply. Feeders are holding steady. You’d think, the way some people talk, that we dealers were false in our patriotism as the chap who was sannding his sugar. “A chap was sanding his sugar the other day with his errand boy’s help. “The errand boy, lifting a scoopful of sand asked: “ The usual proportion, sir?” “ ‘No, Joseph, of course not,’ the boss replied, sternly. “The usual pro portion in days like these? Joseph, Joseph, where’s your patriotism?’ “Then he sighed and added: “ ‘Only half the usual proportion of sand, Joseph only half the usual pro portion as long as our gallant troops at the front have such need of sand bags.’ ”—London Mail.
