Slevera. W. F Simar. On motion prayer of petition was granted. To the honorable board of supervi sors of Holt county, Nebraska. Gentlemen: Your petitioner Wm. Bokhof prays that you make an order to the county treasurer of Holt county Nebraska, ordering him to strike the taxes for the years 1890 to 1901 inclusive on lot tive in block live in the village of At kinson for the following reasons: When the scavenger books were made up it was made to show the delin quent taxes for the years 1902, 1903 and 1904, were all the delinquent taxes due against said property, relying od the scavenger tax books I purchased said lot at scavenger tax sale and sub sequently obtained a treasurer’s deed by virtue of said sale, your petit ioner believes that the taxes for the years 1890 to 1901, inclusive are un collectable owing to the fact above stated, but on account of the condit ion of the record the showing of said taxes casts a cloud on the petitioners title. Wm. Bokhof. On motion prayer ;of petition was granted. M.^zrtt7(snxassitsriSiamE?ma. .—•r/i*r. .ti Lconie Items. Miss Julia Hicks, who is attend ing summer sohool at O’Neill, is home to spend the fourth of July vacation. Automobiling is the order for Sunday recreation now in this vicinity, the autos are quite too common now to pay any attention to. Bring on your airships. At the school election here last Monday Ernest Beaver was elected treasurer of district No. 16, and N. B. Hatch was elected moderator, to fill the vacancies by the resignation of Thomas Harrison and the expiration of of A. Kaczor’s term of office. Dude Harrison is nursing a sore head as the result of a Head on collission with VV. Spindler in a high dive for a long fly ball, in a game at Meek last Saturday. We sympathise with Dude but it takes more than that to wean a fan from the game, so we ex pect to see Dude in his usual place at the next game. Harry Fox also got a bump on the nose with the ball while napping dur ing the same game. You must keep your lamps on the ball, Har ry. A game of ball by two pick teams with Candy and Baking Powder Fox, at the head of one and Chas. Hoyer the oilier, re sulted in the score of 12 to 2 in favor of the Hoyer bunch. It was a one sided game all through marked with some fast, nifty plays on one side and errors and bone head plays on the other. Five pitchers were tried on the Fox staff, Fox being the first to be sent to the dog house, he was quite foxy for awhile and lasted until he was bumptedon the nose then he was supplanted by Spind ler who fared as bad as Fox only lasting two rounds, the opponents making enough runs by that time to insure them the game. Three other daubers were tried who were clouted unmercifully during the last five innings. Ridgeway was on the mound for Hoyers Champs, and was at his best holding his opponents down to 7 hits, with his thumb on the situat ion all the time. Hoyer was in the game all the time wearing the cage and his throwing to second was of the big league kind. Ora Harrison handled the indicator and to say he was punk is putting it mild his judgment on ball and strikes was simply a fright, but as he was playing with the loos ing team, there was not much kick. Hoyer Bunch 1 o 202 3400-12. Fox Bunch ooooooior -2 Struck out Ridgeway 9, Fox and others 2. Hits, Hoyer’s 26, Fox’s 7. Harrison was umpire. Opportunity Items. Still dry but keep on plowing corn. Corn is still holding its own but needs rain badly On the evenings of the 24th, and 25th, of last month lighten ing struck the prairie several times setting it on fire. The 24th it struck about four times east of the Geo. Reichert’s place, and(the fire started by it burned a strip six miles long before it could be stopped. Another fire was start ed the same evening on Joe Fes lers place but was soon put out. Neither fire done any damage be yond burning some grass that was needed for hay. On tlie 25th lightening struck our hog ipeadow setting fire to it, and a spot 30 by 20 feet was burned. A small shower of rain put it out before it could make head way. Only a quarter of an inch of rain fell, but it is the most we have had at any one one lime during th6 month, it freshened things up up a bit, but we need a good big rain. l-»-v '~**m^*^^>-^c,‘gzrM&rxQWSai^i A Very Simple I / have a Stickney Engine and I m«s/ say it is the simplest engine I I have ever seen.
