Snyder was called to Sioux City Monday on account of the serious illness of his mother. Mr. Snyder re turned home Tuesday night, Mrs. Snyder being then on the road to recovery. It is said that considerable money lias been placed on the outcome of the race. The foundation for the Naylor buiiding on Douglas street is com pleted and work on the building proper will commence next week. The building will be of cement blocks, instead of brick as at first intended. Yesterday was one of Judge Malone’s busy days, having been called upon to perform two marriage ceremonies during the afternoon. The second couple to be joined in wedlock was Eli H. Hashaw, aged 80 years, of Page, Neb., to Mrs. MurcyE. f Hashaw, aged 71 years, of Grand Junction, Iowa. The bride was the widow of the groom’s deceased brother. P. J. McManus left for Chicago Monday morning to purchase his fall ind winter stock of dry goods and Nothing. Arthur Duffy, who came up from Omaha last week where he bas been attending school the past rear, is assisting in the store during bis absence. W. S. Grimes was up from Cham bers Tuesday. Mr. Grimes say they bad a very heavy rain in his section uf the county Saturday night, in fact une of the heaviest they have had in the south country for years. He says that the Chambers fair this season promises to be the best ever held. Henry Mills yesterday sold his well, pump and windmill business to George Bowen and Albert Palmer. The sale includes all manchinery and stock on band. Mr. Mills is unable to look Hter the work at present and this fact influenced him to sell. He ex pects to look up another location by next spring. Sam Hickman, chairman of the county board and until last week an active candidate for the democratic nomination for county clerk, was an O’Neill visitor Monday. Sam seems fairly well satisfied with the result of the primaries; he says his suspense is over while that of the other candi dates is only commencing. The friends and neighbors of Eli Hersbiser assembled at his home at two o’clock Sunday afternoon to par take of a delicious dinner which was served on the lawn in honor of Eli’s forty seventh birthday. The young folks enjoyed themselves with games of different kinds, then all took leave for their homes hoping that Eli may have many more such enjoyable days. Married, at the Catholic church last Tuesday morning, Rev. Father O’Sul livan officiating, Elmer Hagensick to Miss Catherine Cook. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Hagen sick of this city and has been a resi dent of Holt county since infancy, while the bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Cook, pioneer residents of Shields, in which township the groom lived prior to the removal of the family to O’Neill.
