tion in this court, and presented an

and testament of Fanny W. Thomas,
deceased, late of New Haven county,
Connecticut, the prayer of said peti
tioner being that a day be fixed by
this court for the purpose of approv
ing and allowing said last Will and
Testament, and causing the same to

Armstrong and a majority of the resi
dent freeholders of Emmett township
Holt county, Nebraska, have tiled a
petition with the county board of
supervisors of Holt county, Nebraska,
praying that a license for the sale ol
malt, spirituous and vinous liquors, in
Iris building situated on lots three and
four, of block two, of the platted vil
lage of Emmett in said township and
county, may be granted to James
Armstrong, applicant, and setting
forth that said applicant is a man of
respectable character and standing

morning to consult a physician as to
the condition of Lowren’s eye.
Mrs. S. A. Sarchet and Mrs. P. T.
Stevens took the train for Lynn,
Iowa, where they were called to the
bedside of their mother, who was crit
ically ill and who died shortly after
their arrival.
Tuesday, Geo L. Roberge started
out with a paper to get subscribers to
carry on the anti-saloon league, in
three hours work he had 1600 subscrib
ers and at supper time had 1900.—The

EWING.
A man giving his name as I. C.
Wilson, asked for meals and lodging
at the Elkhorn hotel one day last
week. He was given both and had no
more than become acquainted with
his new quarters when he was taken
seriously ill. Medical aid was secured
and everything done to help him, but
he died Monday night about six
o’clock. He claimed to be fifty-three
years of age and a resident of O’Neill,
having voted there last fall. None of
his relatives could be found and an
investigation proved the dead man to
be penniless. The body was taken in
charge by Undertaker Jaco and buried
in the Ewing cemetery yesterday.—

Jurgen Schroeder has sold what was

T. M. Elder and son Leonard, de
parted for Glazier, Texas, Tuesday
morning. Mr. Elder expects to re
turn soon, Leonard remaining there
for the summer.
Last Monday evening Art Chambers
discovered a dog hanging to his fence
by one of his legs which had got
caught in the wire, he attempted tc
relieve the poor brute from his predica
ment, but the frightened beast would
have none of it and fastened on to the
leg of his would-be rescuer with his
teath and held on. As a result of the
mixup the poor doggy is dead and Art
is badly crippled up and vows ven
geance on all dogs hereafter found in
