STATE CONVENTION.
Pursuant to the call of the National
Committee issued December 7, 1907,
the Republican electors of the State
of Nebraska are hereby called to meet
In convention in the City of Omaha
on Thursday, March 12,1908, at two
o’clock in the afternoon, for the pur
pose of selecting four delegates at
large and four alternates to the Re
publican National Convention to be
held in the City of Chicago, June 16,
1908, for the nomination of candidates
for President and Vice President of
the United States.
The basis of representation of the
several counties in said state conven
tion, shall be the vote cast for Honor
able H. H. Wilson for presidential
elector at the general election held
November 8,1804, giving one delegate
for each one hundred and fifty votes
and the major fraction thereof so cast
for said H. H. Wilson, but each
county to be entitled to at least one
delegate. Said apportionment entitles
the several counties to the following
representation in the said convention:

It is recommended that no proxies be
allowed and that the delegates pres
ent from each of the respective coun
ties be authorized to cast the full vote
of their delegations.
Attention is called to the method
provided for by the resolution of the
state committee giving the republi
can electors in each county where de
sired, an opportunity to express their
preference for candidate for Presideut
of the United States, when plan of
expressing said preference has been
forwarded to each county chairman.
Attention is also called to Section 3,
of Rule VI adopted by the state com
mittee providing for the filing of cre
dentials and which rule is as follows:
“Credentials of delegates to conven
tions shall be filed with the Secretary
of the State Central Committee at
least live days before the date of said
convention.”
Pursuant to said call of the Nation
al Committee and the laws of Nebras
ka, the several Congressional Commit
tees are Instructed to proceed in the
usual manner to name a time and
place for holding their respective dis
trict conventions for the election of
two delegates and two alternates from
each of said Congressional districts,
in conformity with the requirements
of the call of the National Committee,
the same basis of representation being
used In the several counties as is here
in provided for the state convention.
It is recommended that the same
place and date be selected by said Con
gressional committee for holding said
district conventions as have been
selected by this committee for the
state covention.

CONGRESSIONAL CONVENTION
Pursuant to tbe authority contain
ed in the oall issued by the republican
state central committee, on January
8,1908, the republicans o( the Sixth
Congressional district of Nebraska,
are oalled to meet in delegate conven
tion at Omaha, on March 12, 1908, at
10 o'clock in the forenoon, for the pur
pose of electing two (2) delegates and
two (2) alternates each, to represent
said Sixth district, at the national re
publican convention, to be held m
Chicago, 111., on June 16,1908. Also,
for the purpose of transacting any
business that may regularly come be
fore said convention.
The basis of representation of the
several counties of the district shall
be the same as contained in the state
call of said January 8, 1908, (tixed by
statue under the new primary law)
and based on “the vote cast for Hon.
H. H. Wilson for presidential eelctor
at the general election held November
8, 1904, giving one delegate for each
150 votes and the major fraction there
of so cast for said H. H. Wilson, but
each county to be entitled to at least
one delegate. Said apportionment en
titles the several counties to the fol
lowing representation in said conven
tion.”

beacon light in this state, failed tc
show up in federal court at Omaha
Monday to answer to indictments
charging him with frauds in several
land transactions and his bond ol
810,000 was declared forfeited. Ed
misten could not be located at his
home or elsewhere and the intimatior
is given out in the dispatches that he
has “flown.” His brother, John A
Edmisten, Is caught on the bond for
feiture. Edmisten was once cliairmar
of the populist state committee whicl
used to send out tons of literaturs
about the rascality of republicans
He was also state oil Inspector during
the reign of populism.
Oconto Register: O. O. Snyder o
O’Neill has announced himself as i
candidate for delegate to the Chicags
republican convention from this dis
trict. Mr. Snyder is a close persona
friend and supporter of Congressmai

Its rather a hard knock on “the
1 only Simon pure democratic paper in
1 Holt county" to be ignored by the
| party organization in publishing the
. convention call. The supposedly pop
ulist paper at O’Neill appears to still
hold the favor of the democratic lead
ers of the county.
Three newspaper men have been
located in Madison county against
whom the attorney general has direct
’ ed the county attorney to begin
■ action for the alleged violation of the
' anti-pass law. C. S. Evans of Norfolk,
founder of the Alliance Tribune at
, O’Neill along about 1889, is one of
. these.
A number of prominent western
educators, among them J. L. McBrien
and his deputy, O. C. Bishop of Lin
coln, are in Washington in behalf of
Senator Burkett’s bill providing feder
al aid to western state normal schools.
Congress should appropriate at least
$1,000,000 for this purpose. It would
be of untold benefit to the normal
schools In western states.
It is surprising that anyone would
give credence to the story purporting
to come from Washington to the effect
that President Roosevelt had “order
ed” certain Nebraskans to deliver the
delegation to the republican national
convention for Taft. A well told lie
isn’t so bad, but the pinkeye that con
trived this one must be new at the
business.

sessed none of the railroad in school
district number 242 for said year.
The valuation of said railroad for said
year was #5500 per mile: the leavy in
school district number 207 for said
year was 9 mills: that the total tax
levied against the railroad company
in 207 in said year was $158.54. That
a part of said amount was wrongfully
assessed in school district number 207:
that the Aaluation of the, part of the
railroad which was wrongfully assess
ed in school district number 207 is the
sum of $3575; that the amount taxes
eue based on a levy of 9 mills is the
sum of $32 18; that said sum of #32 18
was collected by school district num
ber 207; that said amount was paid
into the treasurer’s office by the rail
road company and was apportionated
and paid out to school district num
ber 207; that the said sum of $32.18
was wrongfully and erroneously paid
to the officers of school district num
ber 207; that said sum of $32.18 was at
all times and now is a part of the
funds of school district number 242.
Wherefore your petitioners pray
that an order be made authorizing
and directing the county treasurer of
Holt county to transfer the sum of
$32.18 out of the funds of school dis
trict number 207 to school district
number 242 and that said treasurer
make the necessary record of the same
so that school district number 242
shall receive credit for the sijm of

Statute of Nebraska, 2387 Sec. 539,

ments of fines assessed by him for the
year ending Jan. 1, (proceeding) in
writing to the county clerk of their
respective counties on or before the
1st day of February in each year. And

RESOLUTION.
Whereas, as a part of the road dis
trict in this county has been designat
ed as follows: That each district work
every other section around said dis
trict beginning at the northeast cor
ner. And,
Whereas, there seem to be some
misunderstanding in this, therefore
be it resolved that the boundary lines
of each road district in the county be
as follows: That each road district to
have and work the odd numbered sec
tions on the boundary lines of their
districts. And the clerk is hereby
ordered to notify each road overseers
in the county of this action of the
board of supervisors.
